Merry christmas to you - you may just have made mine!
I have a Dell 810 printer, which I got v. cheaply a few months back, and cartridge has just run out. Knowing that it was a rebadged Lexmark (thanks to these fora!), and not wanting to pay Dell cartridge prices, I went out and bought the Lexmark One cartridge.
The cartridge physically fits in the space, but I couldn't get the Dell printer to recognise the Lexmark cartridge - could you please tell me more about which piece of plastic I need to snap off, or anything else that to do so that I won't be hostage to Dell cartridge prices for the rest of my life!!
Thanks in advance,
Norm Diploom
Under the clip down lid of the ink cartridge holder there is a little plastic tongue that hangs down and slots onto the contoured ink cartridge lid. These tongues are in a different place on the dell and lexmarks - hence the different cartridges. They do no job except block you from using different cartridges ie lex or dell. You can either snap them off by hand or cut them off with a craft knife.

GabbaGabbaHey wrote:Nice idea, but it doesn't really work because the printers normally ship with with much smaller capacity cartridges than the ones you buy as replacements. (Not to mention anything about environmental impact!)
Sadly the envronmental impact is determined by the manufacturers. If you get the repair cost of any of these printers it is ridiculously high. It is cheaper to buy a new printer than to get one repaired, they set the service price high so you just go out and buy another. It's a throw away society and you lietrally throw good money after bad.
Refilling is the better idea but they design the cartridges to thwart you, they just want your cash.0 -

What are the Lexmark cartridge product numbers that can be modified to fit this printer. Thanks....freddy0 -
Lexmark 16 if memory serves correctlyYou'll always miss 100% of the shots you don't take - Wayne Gretzky
Any advice that you receive from me is worth exactly what you paid for it. Not a penny more or a penny less.0 -
halifax wrote:Easy to modify to accept Lexmark cartridges - just a case of snapping a small piece of plastic off where the cartridge sits- literally a 5 second job.
But even Lexmark carts are still expensive. Much better buying something with cheaper replacement carts in the first place.

I'm still using the black trail cartridge that came with mine 2 years ago (older dell model but similar) and it refills a treat - just don't over fill.Watch out for Freddie the Fox at the Shay !!0

Just noticed in the spec of this that it refers to single colour cartridge, and composite black i.e. it produces black text by mixing CMY - this is probably not good for producing documents, or for colour prints without black.0
