Oxfordshire - £4 per hour for first child, £3 for second. My CM will do 7am to 7pm, but I think he is quite unusual in offering such long hours. More normal is 8pm to 6pm - but I love the early starts as both mine get up at 5.30am, so I can be at work by 7.30 and home by 4.30!

I'm a Nanna looking after my precious Grandson and there's no way I'd let my daughter pay me - I find it very tiring but a privilidge nonetheless. I bet your Mum's itching to get her hands on the little one for some one to one time

You say your Mum isn't short of money and is retired (like me) so why not just buy her flowers, take her to lunch, pay for a weekend away for her and your Dad occasionally, anything except try to give her money......actually I think I'd be insulted
Try to arrange your holidays to coincide with your parents and then there won't be any problems when that time of year comes round either.I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
I pay 39.50 a day for my nursery place in Northamptonshire going to 38.50 when my daughter is two. HTHx. I agree with the poster above though that your mum will say no to the money so you'll have to spoil her with surprises!HSBC Visa-High interest-£2349.23 Nat West £2605.18
My Overdraft-£1500
Barclaycard-1089.77
Marks and Spencer card- 3331.30 next 92.67

I live near Bridgend in South Wales. My Son's nursery costs £40 a day (7am - 6pm) but he goes from 7:45am - 5pm. He only goes one day a week now, as he has just started school nursery 4 mornings a week and that costs £24 a week (we only pay term time)0

My Mum wouldn't let me pay her either, although it's good to find out how much is the 'norm' so to speak.
She is really looking forward to it and keeps on wanting me to leave him with her while I go shopping but it's hard for me to let go after spending every day and night with him for the past eight months! Plus an extra nine months if you include the time he spent in my belly! :rotfl:
Treats are a great idea. I shall have a think and make a list of them so I can pull one out of the hat every now and again.
Holidays are a little bit of a problem as I don't get to book any. I am a teacher and so will only have school holidays off!:(
Thanks for all the ideas!

We pay £135 per week (5 days a week, 7:30am - 6:30pm) and we live in the North East.
We are thinking of moving down South and obviously the child care in the South will be a lot dearer.0 -
You could offer to pay for any expenses relating to caring for your son e.g. the cost of activities so your mum isn't left out of pocket, without actually paying her for caring for him. Regarding holidays your mum will already know that you are tied to school holidays, and actually that means a lot more weeks off for her than if you were working in an office, for example.0

Bare with me but........... my ex husband's new wife's parents look after my daughter's brother and sister (hope you got that, I bet there was an easier way of putting it!) and what they do is every year they pay for them to accompany them and all their children grand children to a Centre Parks holiday. My daughter says it's great fun, they get a luxury cabin, with sauna and games room etc all their family under one roof a few weeks before christmas. I would stress that at no point do they lift a finger, either to cook or pay for food etc and they don't ever babysit when away, it's purely a fantastic fun mon-fri for them. At times I wish I could go!Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
