How much is your childcare?

Hi everyone
I'm posting now because I return to work part time (three days a week) in February and am looking at how much child care is.

My Mum has said that she will take care of my son when I return to work which my husband and I are very grateful for. My parents are by no means hard up for money (both retired), although I would like to pay towards them looking after my son when I return to work as I know it's a VERY time consuming business. (She has never mentioned wanting to paid).

Because my husband works nights, he is able to look after our son on some of the days so during the first week Mum will only need to look after our son one day a week, the next will be two days, week three one day and week four two days and so on.

I would like to know how much people pay per day for childcare; whether at a nursery or friend/relative/child minder so that I can just find out for myself averages. Don't know if this is important but I live in the South!

Many thanks for any replies.

your mum can always get a registered childminder certificate and you can pay her that way through tax credits, she can ask at her local council they usually run courses and walk you through the process

  • My nursery charges £38.33 per child per day - thats from 8am-6pm though I drop them there at 8.30am and collect at 5.15pm. I am in Essex, obviously.

Two toddlers in full time childcare = negative salary!
:o Trying to become debt free but this site makes me spend a fortune!!! :o

    Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)
  • I pay £25 a day for a childminder and £38 a day for nursery - Lancashire

She would have to have at least one other child to look after (apart from grandchild) otherwise everyone would do it, the state does not pay grandparents to look after their grandchildren.

In Herts, I pay £4 per hour for a childminder, the average round here is £3.50-£6.50 per hour. Nursery is approx £4.50-£5.00 per hour.
