HJT Log for slow laptop

Hi There

I am trying to sort out this old laptop for my daughters birthday. It is a toshiba satellite pro and is quite slow. I would be very grateful if someone could take a look at the hjt log and advise me what I need to do!

Thanks

Laptop is very slow to start up, and very slow to open any programmes.

According to task manager CPU usage varies from 1 - 4%

    Performance usage is 494mb.

Hard Disk is 55.8gb with 40.6gb free - if that makes sense?

    Commit charge is 511204 (varying)

    what about the ram,

    to find the ram,

    left click start

highlight my computer and right click

then left click on properties and a window will pop up showing you the ram

    peak commit charge?

replace norton with avast 5 free, install and run startuplite, accept any changes, install, update, and run a malwarebytes full scan, fix anything found, reset internet explorer to defaults under tools, internet options advanced, install and run ccleaner

    install cleanmem

install and run autoruns, and untick these entries using autoruns

    realsched.exe" -osboot
    QTTask.exe" -atboottime
    GoogleUpdaterService.exe
    msmsgs.exe

    then

control panel, regional and language options, languages, details, advanced, tick the Turn off advanced text services, ok

Disable machine debug manager(MDM.EXE) - IE, tools, internet otions, advanced, disable script debugging

    reboot, and post peak commit.

ok I will try and do the rest now - however I have already installed and run ccleaner and malwarebytes (I read 100's of previous threads on this forum prior to posting mine!)

if a malwarebytes full (and updated) scan didn't find anything, you can skip that step

firefox is a little bit greedy ramwise, ie may be better as you don't have much installed.

there's a lot of toshiba bloat running, look at which ones are using the most ram in task manager, and post details.

    Did Malwarebytes find anything?
  • Sorry - I can find where I need to reset to default settings under options advanced on explorer.

Tools - Options - Advanced - then what?!!!

I did malware bytes quick scan - should I do the full scan??
