Meal replacement diets, which one?

  • But with a very little effort (and less money) on your own part you could eat like this:-

    Day 1

Breakfast: Fruit salad made with strawberries, grapes, apple and melon. 2 Ryvita Original spread with cottage cheese topped with chopped peppers.
Linch: Ham & vegetable omelette made from eggs, chopped ham, peppers, onions and mushrooms. Add cooked new potatoes (chopped) to the mix for a Spanish-style omelette.
Dinner: Spaghetti Bolognese: made with extra lean minced beef, onion, garlic, peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes & oregano. Serve with spaghetti and 28g parmesan

    Day 2

Breakfast: Poached eggs and baked beans on toast (2 slices w/meal bread from a 400g loaf).
Lunch: Jacket potato and tuna with lots of crispy salad and 2 mini Babybel cheeses.
Dinner: Chicken Kiev (chicken breast stuffed with quark mixed with crushed garlic) with syn-free chips, peas, carrots and broccoli.

This is just two days from Slimming Worlds Extra Easy Plan. Costs are minimal, all the family can eat the same so you have it much easier in the kitchen and you don't feel deprived of real food!

At the end of the day we all have to do it the way it works for us, but having tried all the quirky diets going over the years I have found that SW really works and I can eat to appease my appetite which is big :D and lose weight at a steady rate of between 1 and 2 lbs a week which is healthy and sustainable.

I did SW years ago and it did work, but a second go and I was failing dismally. I've found out through dietchef that my portion control was totally out. This isn't a faddy diet. And best of all, you don't have to think and plan. Just have fruit and veg in.

Diet Chef sounds interesting, how much does it cost?
And I'm in a similar boat with you, jellytastic. I've an odd spine which impairs my mobility, hence exercise is sadly out of the question. And that is one contributing factor to my comfort eating of late... hmm...

Many, many years ago when I was a little girl my dad lost loads of weight with a TMR diet, called Siegal -or something like that-, we used to nick his shakes and biscuits, they were gorgeous! Anyway, now in his 60s, he never put the weight back on, so I do trust the effectiveness of these type of diets. Exante looks promising, and not too expensive at £100 for a month, have you actually tried it Ali-t? Any good?

Many thanks to all for your replies and congratulations on your weight losses! I shall endeavour to follow in your footsteps! ;-)

Are you going to be buying in like this for ever then? Only if not, at some point you're going to have to think and plan or the weight will just come back gain.
I let my mind wander and it never came back!
  • Hi Hon,

To answer your original question - I have done both Lighter life and cambridge diet in the past. They are basically the same thing but Lighter life costs alot more and you would have to interact with a counsellor :0( LL costs around £66 a week for the basics - if you want drinks etc that is extra, Cambridge diet is approx £40 a week - exactly the same stuff just packaged in a different way and none of the mumbo jumbo :0) I lost 9 stone with LL but as others have said it does only work while you are doing it :0( every one I know has put back on the weight and then some. I'm still 6 stone lighter but it is down to exercise and eating sensibly (I did go back up but am now on the way back down :0). Its good as a kick start but isn't sustainable. I found that I liked been skinny more than lardy which is why i am on my way back down the sensible way this time :0)
My post count doesn't reflect the amount of time spent on here :0) I just keep forgetting my login details - now saved.

I lost 6 stone with Cambridge. After a really stressful few years I've put 4 back on, but lost two over the summer using allaboutw8 - same sort of packs but all done online, which suits me since I don't want any support and don't have time to go and see someone. Another reason I prefer this diet is that they also have bars that can be used from day 1. I'll be back on this after Christmas to lose the last two stone.
I know people say that VLCD diets are bad for you, but this is the only kind of diet that has ever worked for me and it must be better to be thinner than 6 stone overweight, even if they way I got there is not ideal. I also get a lot less miserable about my weight now (and therefore comfort eat less!) knowing that I now have a way of losing weight whenever I need to.

I have tried most of them with limited success as I have the thoughts in my head that it is so easy to lose weight on them that it won't hurt to go back to eating chocolate all the time and I can just go back on the diet again - wrong attitude :p

I lost 2.5 stone in 6 weeks with LL. The group thing with every one comparing weight loss was a huge motivator for me. Cambridge I didn't lose much as I never really got into it and then my 'counsellor' gave it up. I have a box of exante products sitting in the kitchen waiting for the day I wake up motivated. Their shakes aren't as nice as cambridge but the bars are nice and really filling.

I should really do it before xmas rather than continually putting it off :o
If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!
  • I've been looking for a meal replacement diet that works. Heard some good things about Cambridge but also about the celebrity slim one and i've gone for this as a mate at work is on it and i tried one of the bars - v. good!!! Thought we could do it together then as it's nice to have someone else to keep you going. I've read some good things on forums about people whove tried it too and say it works. I'm going to buy a week's worth today and see how i go - will let you know! And good luck everyone else!!!
