Other times like the above poster I just carry on with whatever I was doing and take no notice of the door.

This is all fine but what if it is something important? It could be anyone. A suspected gas leak? A police liason officer informing you a relative has been involved in an accident? A delivery? Voter registration? Anything??? I could never just not answer the door. Apart from being incredibly rude I need to know who it is. I particularly don't like charities trying to collect money from me on the doorstep but a polite 'not interested' is the way to go. People who have to earn a living cold calling have miserable enough existences and I wouldn't want to add to it.:A

Not good advice. This is likely to end up with a journey to the police station in the back of a police car. Throwing unknown (from the victim's point of view) liquid into someones face is assault and may result in a criminal record or caution. If someone did it to me whether it hit me or not I would certainly ring 999 and get police assistance and I might possibly just think it is acid and my eyes are stinging and my vision is blurred and I am struggling to see to ensure my attacker spends at least a night in the cells. Shock and trauma can have an amazing effect on victims. I don't like people's dogs crapping in my garden either - I put up a fence - but physically attacking people will result in more hassle than dog crap on your garden.:A

He only got a police visit the once, after he opened the door with a baseball bat in his hand (that was a double glazing salesman who was actually wandering around the back garden peering in the windows ). the salesman was actually pulled over for speeding as he left town, and the policeman just called to make sure dad was ok.

On another note, dad couldn't have a front fence (one of those covenant thingys)

Oh, and BTW I'm not recommending that anybody answers their door with a baseball bat.

Would this notice stop doorstep salesmen, Jehovah's Witnesses and trick or Treaters?

It may deter jehovah's and trick or treaters, but you will probably have a line of salesmen!:rotfl:

I have been known to offer fruit to trick or treaters. The parents are far more impressed than the children :)

There was a Betterware/Avon/??? thread recently where one of the salespeople specifically said they ignored notices like this.

Had quite a few Betterware agents put through unsolicited magazines through my letterbox but never Avon, until today!

Perhaps I should put this notice up...

    Unsolicited sales persons and goods
will be clamped, towed away and disposed of.

I've only got onions in the house at the mo (don't ask). Will they do?
  • My husband is home all day since he was made redundant and he said it's amazing how many cold callers we get.

I'm in the process of getting a little sign for the front door from Amazon. Let's hope it works.

Trick or Treaters are going to be ignored this year because we had a visit from some kids last week and when I suggested they come back at Halloween they were really rude to me. The money I usually spend on Halloween treats for them has gone to charity.

It's a shame because I usually enjoy answering the door and making a fuss of them ............

I think Bunting was being a bit tongue in cheek, ALL salesmen have already sold their soul to the dark side !
