Help!!!
All of the threads have me really confused! i'm 19 and have no idea on tax, codes or anything...
I currently earn £830 a month (£1000 before the tax man gets me) at my full time 9-5 job but i am due to start my part time job (15-20 hpw) next week. how much can i expect to be taxed? i also read something about a tax rebate somewhere but all the complicated talk has me confused.
can someone please explain it to me thoroughly in simple terms? what happens with my money and when? it takes me a while to click on!
Thanks,
Hannah0 -
You are a basic rate taxpayer. You have a tax free allowance of 6035 this year. As this is all used up against your mian job, your second job will have straight 20% tax deducted.
For NIC, each job you have has an exempt amount of £104pw. After that, you pay NIC at 11%.
The tax and NIc you have quoted in your present job looks a bit high to me - although you may just have posted round sums. If you would like to post your code number and pay and tax to date, we can check this for you.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0 -
the code on my wage slip is 603L. I'm only a temporary worker for the company and have been on a temporary contract since 3rd December 07. could this be the reason?
tax to date: £993.40
gross pay: £10000 (since April 08, the company's year end is April)
each month i take home £840.43, sorry i put £830 before i've just checked
Thanks x0 -
Temporary contracts, you age and working hours do not affect your tax. Only your income is relevent. On the info you have now givem your deductions are correct.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0

A tax refund only occurs when you have paid too much tax, for instance when you have been on ther wrong code number or have not worked for part of the year. You have paid the correct tax, so no refund due.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0

Hi I have just stared a new job working 36hrs per week this is over 3 days so I wanted to get a second job, would someone be able to let me know how I will be getting taxed etc? I have looked on the net but am really not sure the second job would be about £90 p/w. Thanks alot0

Assuming you tell your second employer that you already have a job then they should tax your as BR i.e. all your second income will be taxed at 20% because your tax free allowance is allocated to your first job.
You are also liable to NI on any amount over 105 per week (probably zero in your case)0 -
Hi,
I have a main job doing 37.5hrs a week £11600 p/a, I have just started a second job too doing around 15hrs p/w, It may sound cheaky but if I dont ask I wont know, could even though I have the second job could I still claim for single working tax credits (which I have not already)?
Thanks.0 -
Hi,
I'm looking for a little bit of advice regarding my tax code.
Last year I was in China travelling for 8 months. I returned in February this year and signed on for jobseeker benifits in march.
I found a new job at the start of may, but because the job centre had not sent me out a new P45 yet, I used the previous tax code from my last job (before i went to China) which was 546L or something like that.
I got my first pay slip in with this, and i then got my P45 in and my code has been changed to 649L on my new P45.
I handed this into my new employer and they said i'd get a refund on the extra tax I paid in my 1st months wage, but when I got my 2nd months pay slip, it shows my tax code as being 649L M1 and there is no refund on the extra tax i paid from the 1st month...
What does the M1 mean? Does this mean that I am paying more tax? is this because I lived in China for 8 months?
Also, I'm also getting working tax credits of around £200 per month. Can this be affecting my tax code also??
I was also thinking about getting a second job for in the evening. I know I'd pay basic rate (20%) on my second jobs earnings, but can you tell me if this will also affect my tax credits and the 649L M1 tax code??
thanks for your help!!0
