I totally understand that feeling. When we lost Suki, we thought having our two cats around the house would bring us comfort and cheer us up, but to be honest (and yes I know it sounds awful) we could barely look at them either - it wasn't them we wanted, it was Suki, and we couldn't have her back.

It will get easier. I never thought I'd be happy again when we first lost Suki. I used to watch people doing their shopping, chatting on a mobile phone or strolling down the street laughing, and I wondered when I would ever feel carefree and light-hearted again. But it will come, with time. You just need to grieve for your little friend, remember the great memories of him, and put out your favourite photographs of him. Do something special in his memory, just for him, and smile when you think of the good times xxx

 R.i.P our beautiful girl Suki. We'll love and miss you forever
  • So sorry to hear this, I really do feel your pain. I lost my cat last year, she was 17 and i'd had her from the age of 12. She knew all my secrets and comforted me when I was sad. She'd wait up for me on the stairs if I went out late and she'd always be forst on the bed at bedtime. They're little people, I don't care wnhat people say about dogs being companions and cats not it's totally untrue.

    Big hugs to you. x

So sorry for your loss Mags xxx

I think you did exactly the right thing for your cat: he was obviously having trouble breathing and you took him to the Vet, what any responsible owner would do. I think he would only have gotten worse if you had not had him treated and may have suffered. It's such a shame the Vet couldn't help him more, but he sounds like he was a very sick little boy.

Guilt is part of the grieving process, so be kind to yourself xxx

Mags I agree with the post above.

I lost my boy very suddenly a couple of years ago, like yours he just keeled over & I was beside him in a right state.

Two years on, I'm glad it was quick & I'm glad I was beside him calling to him & stroking him.

Brought tears to my eyes answering you:o

I still miss him (he was very special - big ginger persian with attitude) & I'll never have another cat like him.

But its easier, I remember the good times more than I think about that last evening & I'm always grateful I was with him (I wasn't long in from work) even if I was a wreck like you, I'm sure he was glad I was there & I'm sure your boy was too.
