my wee cat died

Hi all
I lost my wee boy on friday it was so sudden, his breathing was very labored and i knew he had a heart murmer but he was looking so tired out so i took him to the vets.
He normally doesnt mind going in the cat carrier but this time he was getting so stressed by the time i got to the vets his breathing was much worse and i could actually here a popping noise in his heart beats.
The vet took out some fluid from his lungs via a syringe and gave me tablets to administer morning and night.
I got him home and as soon as i let him out off his carrier he started convulsing laying down and was struggling to breath , his pupils became very enlarged and i was all over the place crying and kneeling down beside him, i was on the phone beside him and the vet could hear that he was bad and asked me to bring him back to vets but i never got that far.
he passed away in the house and now iam thinking that by taking him to the vets it may have caused him so much stress & i feel so bad that i may have caused him more stress!
I think it was heart failure and fluid in his lungs, has any other animal owner seen this before in a cat ? i guess iam looking for answers as to why this happens so quickly
Iam really in shock and cannot get over how one minute i had a beautiful Tabby only five yrs old and now he is gone.

I am so sorry for your loss of the Tabby,It must have been so distressing for you to have Tabby pass away like that in front of you.Dont blame yourself, you did all you could for your Tabby.

    *hugs*

You will need a tissue when reading as I get tears in my eyes when reading this poem.

    Rainbow Bridge Poem

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together…

So sorry for your loss Mags xxx

I think you did exactly the right thing for your cat: he was obviously having trouble breathing and you took him to the Vet, what any responsible owner would do. I think he would only have gotten worse if you had not had him treated and may have suffered. It's such a shame the Vet couldn't help him more, but he sounds like he was a very sick little boy.

Guilt is part of the grieving process, so be kind to yourself xxx
Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree! :D

Of course it was right. Any cat will be nervous about leaving his 'territory' and particularly when he's feeling unwell, but he needed that medical attention - it would have been so much worse to just watch him struggle without doing anything to help. So please, please don't feel guilty... you clearly loved your cat and I'm sure he knew it :)

Sorry to read of your sudden loss.

It doesn't matter whether they are young or old, ill for some time or suddenly struck down, the pain is real to the pet owner/guardian/slave! And yes it is hard to avoid thoughts of guilt - did I do the right thing, and at the right time.

In a few days it'll be two years since I said good-bye to mine, but I still miss her. She did get to 20.5 years - the CRF just got to much, though she lasted maybe eight months longer than the vet thought!

Hi Mags, I'm so very sorry to hear you lost your little pal in this way. Nobody, absolutely nobody, would ever tell you you did the wrong thing by rushing him to the vets - we all would have done exactly the same thing, any responsible owner would have.

The pain will ease with time. What you're feeling now, the questions and the guilt playing on your mind, it's normal. We lost our 5-year-old dog in May, to cancer, and even now I question 'did we do enough for her? Should we have done this/that/the other?'... You just have to focus on the fact that you DID do your best for him.

    Very best wishes xxx
