    It's basically retirement due to a permanent medical condition that will prevent you from going back to work. There are some pretty strict guidelines for this though so don't sign anything and make sure you qualify with your own checks, not just their say so.

    as ive said before i would like them to keep my job open for me. Is there any reason they cant.

    "needs of the business": they've had your colleague doing two people's work for 2.5 years - does that mean he hasn't had any time off in all that time? It's not long term sustainable, is it? It's unsatisfactory to get a temp worker, because they can't give any indication of how long the contract might be for, or whether it might be renewed.

    I think it depends: if you get your pension early certainly it depends. But really it is a question you should ask them, and keep asking until you understand.

    Yes, how many do you need?

    1) They need to cover you, either temp or perm but they don't know until you both communicate
    2) Its costly to pay or have people on your books who are not at work giving something back.
    3) Uncertainty around your job/role has an impact on others. Perhaps the people covering you are drowning in work and asking their managers to get in some help (see 1).

    There are lots of reasons.

    The company can't just sack you, they have hoops to jump through, but please don't think they can't.

    You'd need to look into it fully but the ones I've seen are when people are in the 55+ range and their consultant agrees they will likely not be able to work at all before they would retire anyway. From what I understand they then can make arrangements to become medically retired then and there and tap into a pension style wage. I don't know all the ins and outs but I do know that it takes a !!!! of a lot of paperwork and ALL the medical experts have to agree that you cannot work.

    I know that it can be done earlier in life as well but have not seen it myself. (I work in NHS admin so I tend to chat with patients who are chasing the doctor reports)

    I would seriously consider changing the appointment to suit both parties.

    It is better to have the appointment in your place of work, in an office set aside for it.

    I had an accident at work, I was covered by DDA, I tried to get reasonable adjustments, but due to the type of workplace I was in this was not suitable and also my own GP would have had to be ready to sign me back to work which he was not.

    I tried to get them to give me a job in the office, part time, again they refused.

    In the end I was seen my a private doctor with a view to giving me my civil service pension, this was delayed for a year whilst they bickered between themselves and then backdated eventually.

    This was a company that I thought would look after my best interests, considering that I had an accident in the workplace and they were 100% to blame, but conviently documents and paperwork went 'missing'.
    I shall see what they have to say then get some further advice.

    Had boss and HR round today it went really well. They said there was no thought of them getting rid of me. They said they have a insurance policy that pays out when your sick, it pays out 75% of your wages,which sounds quite good. They also said that i dont acure holiday pay when off sick for the whole year she said you have to work for part of the year you are claiming holiday pay for does this sound about right.

    So they are getting paid out and your not getting anything?

    No I still think they are wrong regarding holidays but SarEL or LazyDaisy would be better to give advice
