There's not a lot of parking down my road. It can be a bit of a free-for-all and I often have neighbours' cars parked outside my house.

It doesn't particularly bother me... but I do have a huge objection to big vans. I have quite a nice view from my window; the road is one-sided and looks out onto an old railway track that's now used by cyclists and pedestrians. I like to people watch. I can't do that with a massive great works van parked slap bang outside my window.

I know that taxed vehicles have every right to be there but it still really bothers me. Is that unreasonable?

Another example of what a considerate person you are.

A considerate person who thinks that his opinion counts for more than the law of the land, who resorts to threatening behaviour to get his own way, who considers this thread his private sounding board barred to those with a different opinion, who misconstrues others' comments if they are inconvenient for his point of view.

But back to the subject. If other people parking in a street is so inconvenient then the residents should apply for permit parking or similar scheme.

Eh ? Sorry, I was under the impression that this forum was to vent ones frustrations, hence the name "Praise, vent and warnings" I don't see again why someone who has nothing to do with the original discussion feels compelled to stoke up a dying argument.

Do you not think it slightly contradictory that you are moaning at me because of 'my attitude and difference of opinion' yet you have a different opinion to me ..... but that's Ok because it 'yours' !?! .... very hypocritical !

Can I ask, do you have a private drive way ?
  • I live in a street where there are no parking restrictions but the road is used as a car park for people who work in town etc, and there is never a chance of getting a parking space again if you leave! I have a neighbour who used to do the "wheelie bin" in the space she had just left so that she would be able to park when she got back. However, me and other neighbours would remove the bin when she had left and either park in the space or let someone else have it :D.

TBH after we had done this for a while she gave up trying to get a space saved, and was pleasant about it to us cos she would have done the same.

Unfortunately the 3 streets behind us have gone to Residents Parking only so there is even less chance to get a space now, but we have applied for the Residents Parking Zone to include our street, so fingers crossed :o

But sometimes a post that's been deleted gets quoted by the target ;-)

No, because at no time have I suggested that you shouldn't post on here (e.g. I haven't accused you of poking your nose in).

Yes, but not large enough for all the cars we own so some have to be parked on the road and sometimes not right outside the house because someone else has left their car there whilst they're at work. Can't say I get too bothered about it.

(I'm proud of the use of their/there/they're above though.)

This isn't too far from where we live, and according to local news and gossip this was the latest in a long line of petty arguements between the 2 guys who had been good mates at one stage.

Drove us a bit mad when we lived on a terraced street a few years ago, best thing we ever did was buy this house with a long drive in a quiet area.
In some ways where we used to be wasn't sooo bad, not like the middle of london or another big city I am sure. There was an agreement between neighbours not to park in one spot at the end of the bay as the house belonged to an old couple-one in a wheelchair. They were both grateful for this and were a lovely friendly couple. People tended to park nicely and avoided too much blocking in etc, no bins or cones required, just a good chat and friendly give and take. Still it did annoy a bit when bringing shopping in, in the rain and not able to park outside the house.

Hate to be a stereotype, but it was "oop north" and yes we did have a chippy on the corner rofl. We could pop our heads around the door and shout stick in a couple of fish john, nip home and do the bread etc and pick it up when cooked lol. Ahh the days before we had kids.
