10 of the 45 stores have received limited interest. I think closing down sales have already started at these stores. They are
    Bolton
    Chelmsford
    Ipswich
    Horsham
    Kingston
    Leeds
    Oxford Street, London
    Reading
    Romford
    York Clifton Moor
  • I know everybody is going mad over the Alders administration sale, but be warned, they are artificially inflating prices so it looks like you get a bargain!

Was in the Watford store and picked up a solid wood chopping board out of a pile that were all marked as £25, the one that I picked had the top barcode with the £25 price removed (maybe someone was barcode swapping?!?!), when it was rung up at the till with the original barcode (that was underneath) it was only £20 less the 10% dicsount!

Looks like they are bumping the prices up to make it look like there are bargains to be had

Have to admit that the sale was a big pile of pants with no real saving to be made except on furniture (have to admit I never looked at the clothes)

  • I visited it last week and to be honest thought it was the biggest pile of overpriced rubbish I have seen in a long while..Sorry for the folk losing their jobs but to be quite honest given what I saw I'm not suprised with the high prices they went bust..

Having said that it really is quite "impressive" to make a dept store group go bust during one of the longest consumer booms in history..Oh to be a captain of industy!

My local Allders store is in Romford, a huge great thing. Unfortunately they stuck it out on the edge of a car park where is seems rarely visited.

I went a couple of times with a friend, once to buy an outfit for a wedding and was really surprised by the prices, much higher than I was expecting for fairly ordinary goods.

I don't have any other experience of other Allders but from what I saw here I'm not surprised they went bust.

I feel sorry for their staff though, Mr Soolin was made redundant the week before Christmas and it is very difficult trying to cope.

    Soo

I've just got back from the Slough store. They are offering 40% MORE discount off the sale price. 2 pairs of cotton trousers, originally £55 cost me £13.60. BARGAIN. It's worth having a rummage round. There really are some bargains to be had in this sale.

  • Does anybody know the final days of closure for the stores?? the last few days will be manic.
Just come from the main store in croydon , a further 40% off the lowest ticket prices on most mens fashion clothing (one pair of jeans that retail £135 now less than £30) (sizes limited though). Womens clothing very cheap, trainers and sports wear very very cheap too..adidas £10 a pair.(running low on many sizes)
They are still holding back on massive reductions with electricals and other goods but I would expect this to change closer to the end dates.
Whilst in their they were giving away free paring(?) knives in the kitchen department without any purchase, over 21's only.
  • Was in their Leeds store with a friend buying a scalextric set for his little brothers birthday, most of the sets had been reduced by £10 then a further 20% off as well, ended up leaving with some extra track as that was so cheep to!

dont know when the Leeds store is closing, the guy on the till seamed to think it was at least 2 weeks, but loads of good bargins on the toys so if you have young relatives go get some future b-day or xmas pressents in cheep now!

[EDIT] from what ive read in the local press the leeds store has had no intrest and will close down unless a buyer is found[/edit]
