PC not booting up - help needed please

In the last half hour I had to reboot my other PC (by pressing button) as it had slowed down and stopped responding. Now when I try re-starting it does not get to the desktop - after the Dell screen it goes blank and does not reach the next stage of the boot...

I tried doing it from safe mode but didn't work there either - same problem.

The only options I have are F2 and F12....

Really concerned about this....

Which version of windows ??

so you can get to the F8 screen with the options to start in safe mode

safe mode last known good config. or safe mode with command prompt then

chkdsk c: /f

I'm using Windows XP - I can get to F8 options screen but then safe mode won't boot up...

safe mode won't boot up once selected from F8 screen....

one thing to add - the monitor seems to darken after it stops continuing to boot up...as if it is switching off due to no signal from PC...

I dont have any option to 'Repair computer'....

For that u will need the XP disc or an oem recovery disc even.

Does this delete anything from hard drive?

I think the repair option does not delete docs -- I stress I think.
