glad everyone seemed to have a good christmas and new year! (hope you and your sister are ok Zig!) Mine was good (I had a lovely time at home and it was nice to be at home for so long because of all the bank holidays (and nice to be paid for them for the first time ever too!) The only thing was that as ever with Christmas and NYE it worked out faar too expensive :( expecting a massive bill this month so im focussing on trying to get some money together for that, saving my christmas money and fiiinally banked some expenses I'd been holding on to and trying to claim money back from people who owe me (I did get a new dress in the sales - present from OH though and it was 50% off so i think its ok!). Also trying to save in other ways and trying to get the boy on board for savings in 2011 and i think its working in theory... Aside from this bill though my accounts should be a bit healthier in 2011! I'm expecting a pay rise (woop woop) and a belated prize from uni so fingers crossed! (nothings finalised yet though!) I'll keep you all posted on here though and im going to set some targets when I know whats happening!
Anyways, Birdie have you seen this soap and glory thing https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2952294 I know you were dissapointed to miss out on the last one.
Dinah I;m so excited about your new business! I wish you could tell us what it is but I guess it will come in time! :D Keep it up though!

NIM and I have been chatting this evening and have decided 2011 is the year to simplify. Declutter the house, get rid of broken or ratty things especially clothes, and generally try to find ways to simplify our lives a bit to create more time for our priorities. Which for me means paying off the debt (goes hand in hand with decluttering), starting regular exercise to get the knee going again, and focussing our time on my business and his career. To that end we've spent a lot of time over the holidays reorganising the house. Biggest change is the craft room is in the process of going. I don't have time for crafts now or in the near future, thats kind of like the old version of what I wanted from my life - lots of free time to make stuff. Now I'm so sick of being skint and being unchallenged at work what I really want is to work for myself, so we're working the house around our current clutter free priorities. For now all the craft stuff is going on bookcases in the attic room. In the future it may come out again but I'm looking forward to having the craft room as a nice dining room, which will double as a big workspace when I need to lay things out.

New year, new start. Onwards and upwards, 2011 is going to be the year things become less messy and more what I want them to be. (Probably would be better if I hadn't started it by clocking my head while undercoating the bathroom, covering my hair in white anti-mould paint!)

Nice to meet you Nym Mc, looking forward to getting to knowing you more when you reach the end. Although we natter more once we're "working" so it might be like trying to find the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow (which would be nice!)

Have given up sleeping it seems. Last night was 3.30am. I think my body is trying to stretch out my holiday time as much as possible before its back to misery, drudgery and toil.

Hello Nym, nice to meet you! I know how it feels to try to catch up with the thread, I started back on the first one and it took me a full week to read the lot so I could post and say hello! It'll get confusing having a Nym and a NIM though! Hello to Nat too! :hello:

Back at work today... and there's nothing to do since the office that generates the work is closed! Boring! All I've got to do is sort out the junk on my desk, but I prefer my version of filing which is to pile it up in one place and hope for the best!

I love the sound of the decluttered life Dinah! I really think I ought to take your lead on that one and get rid of the stuff I don't need! I'm kind of starting by not buying more rubbish that I don't have to own, OH got cross with me on Friday because I refused to buy a cute coin purse for £4 in the Accessorize sale because I don't need another little purse. 'But it's only £4!!! And it's got a little plane on it!', 'Yes but it's yet another thing to sit in a drawer!' :p Small steps and all that! I'm going to slowly go through all the crafty junk in my spare room over the year and cut it all down because a) I'll never use it all so it's just taking up space that we don't really have and b) I don't do much card making/ scrapbooking now because I can't be bothered to dig out the stuff I want to use as there's so much to look through! :o

Thanks for the link to the S&G set Tink! I'm very interested but it's kind of anti-what I said above... but I'll use it all and I do need some of the bits that are in there... :)

About the skin and bones comment from Dinah after my gym going... hardly! I just seem to be getting stronger but I'm not getting much thinner! I'm downloading the 30 Day Shred (again!) today so I'm going to go to the gym and do the Shred every day (or as often as I can) and hopefully I'll see results! Only 40 days until we fly so I really need to pull my finger out and stop eating so darn much!!!!! I'm going to ring a local salon tomorrow and ask them how much their slimming body wrap is. Apparently you lose inches and it lasts for about a month, desperate times call for desperate measures! OH said it's worth it if it costs less than £90 since that's how much it'll cost for me to go low carb for a month! :rotfl:
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!

    Hi Nym and Nat!

Dinah - the new year plans sound just what you need to be motivated and to help get your business plans underway.

I am trying to do a bit of decluttering of my own. Mainly to make way for the baby stuff! I put some things on ebay and a couple are doing quite well so i am getting addicted to checking ebay now. I might end up selling everything haha.

My lovely Mum ordered my pushchair for me and it was on deal where the carseat came free so that is two of the biggest expenses that we don't have. Got to love parents sometimes.

Glad you had a good Christmas Tink, Jan is always a horrible month moneywise.

Birdie - 40 days till you fly , wow that is going to fly by. I am sure you will looks lovely whether you lose weight or not.

Thats impressive, I'm still struggling to walk away from 'cute' bits. Since most of my shopping is online I've started just adding to basket or opening the tabs, but not buying them for 24 hours, about 80% of the time things don't get bought the more I look at them. Bought quite a bit in Next sale (so far every single bit has gone back!) but that was because I now have 0 work shirts, 2 work dresses and 2 work skirts (which are a bit rubbish with a t shirt on top!). NIM has 5 work shirts and 3 pairs of trousers, but still wears my big work coat as his outdoor coat as he doesn't have a coat of his own!

NIM and I are doing 30 day shred in January! Ooooh shredder thread coming up? Mum and I are joining Zumba this week too Birdie, do you still go?

Started the declutter externally - listed the car again. Its been SORN for a month now, it'll be a pain having to go 20mins north to drop NIM off to come south another 50 mins to drop me off, when its only 40mins from my door straight to my work, but we just can't afford to run two cars atm.

'o' button on my computer seems to be dying. I've had to go back through the post and add them all in! Very glad I bought that 2 year extended hardware warranty from Dell when bits like this flare up.

    Hi right back Birdie :)

If it's easier I can answer to anything... Frog if you like? After all NIM was here first :)

Get to the decluttering, it's a good thing to do at the beginning of a year. It makes the year shiny and clean, that way you know you can achieve anything.
