Went over my minutes on Vodafone -- anything I can do?

Hi all,

Done a silly thing recently -- too much time on the mobile talking to the GF!

I'm on a 300 minutes a month contract and I've gone over by 200 or so minutes (I have no idea how. I need to check my bill, but I'm having some trouble accessing my online account right now )

I'm on a £15 a month contract, and going over by 200 minutes amounts to an £88 bill!!!!! I looked on their website, and the charges from network to network are 35p a minute! (by far the most expensive I've found now I've looked it up)

Obviously this is my fault, and I'm perfectly happy to pay a few extra pounds when I've gone over a little, but this is insane!

I'm going to phone up and ask if there's anything that can be done, and I was thinking of saying I wanted to upgrade my contract anyway for more minutes. But is there much else I can say? 35p a minute is very high, and I was thinking of complaining about that and saying I don't want to be a vodafone customer any more after this...

There was no sort of warning of any sort, and it's quite hard to check your balance really... -_-

Does anyone have any advice or experience with dealing with companies like this?

Thanks very much. And no "This is YOUR fault!" I know it is :rotfl:
But this is clearly a bit nuts anyway, and I'm hoping there is something I can do... :/

Thanks VERY much, all!

That is about your best bet, seems it will cost about an extra £5 for 300mins.
  • If your gf is on vodafone, try vodafone family. I think its £5 month and gives unlimited calls between 4 (I think) nominated vodafone numbers.

You'd be lucky if Vodafone agree to letting you add on more minutes retrospectively. This is how they make money, when customers go over their allowances. Worth a try but be ready to take the hit and be a bit more vigilent on your useage. Let this be a lesson learned

OP, you said you've gone over your minutes by 'a little' , in fact you've gone over by a lot. Update your tariff to something more suitable, take responsibility for your actions and move on.

There is nothing you can do but pay the bill and make sure that you check your minutes every day from now on.

    Hi Sircanealot

Sorry to hear that you went over your minutes, I do know it can be a bit of a surprise when you see your bill.

There has been some fantastic information given above on what your options are and what to do, so thank you for that.

The best thing to do to manage how many minutes you have is to call 44555 which is free, and doesn't use any of your minutes.

You can also upgrade your package to get more minutes, which will save you money each month if you do continue going over you bundle.

If you would like to discuss this, please send the Web Relations Team an email with the subject: WRT135 and we can discuss the options with you. We can also sort out the issues that you are experiencing with your online account.

I am certain we can help

    Thanks

  • The samething has happened, but on the vodafone website it says when i am near my limit i will recieve a text message, I recieved a message after I went over by £80 exc vat which will add it up to £100 inc vat, I went over by 4 hours. I have been with vodafone since feb 11, but after this, I will Never go back on vodafone. I WOULDN'T ADVISE ANYONE TO USE THEIR NTWORK. How are they willing to charge so much for going over your contract by 4 hours yet they are unwilling to pay their taxes. I usually have 100 minutes left after each month, so this is a big shock to me. They have even charged me, for calling their customer service line, when they sent a text to me, saying it is free to call in.

The charges for out-of-allowance minutes are even more easy to find, so you should have known them before exceeding your limit.

Were you concerned about them allegedly not paying taxes before they charged you for 4 hours?

Yes, the charges are extraordinary, but they are easy to avoid and you should have taken them into account when making a decision to take a contract with them.
Your only real point is the text message that they apparently should have sent you, not the charges and the taxes.
