From my experience with 02, they always contacted me prior to my contract expiring. I'd always upgraded, but last time I went on a month to month contract which was cheaper. Usually if you don't want an upgrade they will give you money or make your monthly price cheaper.
However my GF reached the end of her contract was told nothing by orange. She automatically went on a month to month contract at the same price BUT lost her loyalties. Meaning no unlimited texts or data therefore incuring a large bill.
Best to always phone up in the last month of your contract.0
