Is Stigy still posting ill-informed advice.

For the record anyone considering changing there bulbs, Xenons are illegal to have fitted to your car if you use it on a public road unless serious modifications are made as anewman has stated.

Bulbs must have the BS standard marking on them to confirm they are public road legal to use - Do check this if buying on eBay as a lot of sellers will not put that in their listing or if you ask them they will be wary and say 'I haven't checked as there sealed in the packet!
Sassy, it's far from ill-informed, not like you advising passengers to ignore their Penalty Fares in the hope that they'll go away like PCNs do!

You're simply using somebody elses knowledge that you know NOTHING about in order to make yourself look good. Yes I'll probably be told off for this post, but nevermind. HID conversions are quite legal so long as you have washer jets fitted and they conform to BS regulations. The only downside is the cost of such conversions.

For the record I have had dealings with PPC's for over two years and in my early days of receiving such gained advice from CAB and a solicitor, so I would like to advise you I know a lot regards PPC's and there enforceability - unlike you appear to know, but we are not discussing unenforceable 'invoices' in this thread - thank you ;)

Regards HID are not legal unless you make serious modifications, as others have stated to you, which you quite clearly did not state in your original post in this thread.
Please stop advising drivers to fit illegal bulbs that may not fail an MOT or get them stopped, but there is a chance of such.

Bulbs must have the BS standard to fit and use on a public road.

I was refering to your knowledge of car maintenance actually, and nothing to do with PPCs.

I in NO place stated that illegal HID kits should be purchased and fitted to ANY car, and in no place will you see such advice. I merely stated that such kits are available on the market, which they are. Note how I also stated in my initial post in this thread, that you should buy a proper kit and NOT a knock off one (in other words not an illegal one). Manufacturers of such kits will happily supply in-depth advice as to the legalities of such kits.

Auto Express reviewed these last week. Scores as follows:

    Osram Night Breaker Plus 97
    Phillips x-treme Vision 81
    Osram Silverstar 77
    Osram Super 76
    GE Megalight Ultra 74
    Halfords Advanced Extreme Brilliance 70

  • I fitted Philips X-Treme Power to my van three years ago, both the H1 and H7 dip and main beam bulbs. They are much brighter, the dip beam is wider and makes it easier to spot animals on the verge. The main beam is just sooo much better too, wider, longer and brighter.
They have lasted 150 000+ miles including constant daytime running on dip during the winter.

I was going to order today the Osram night breakers but I seen some poor reviews on Amazon mainly they dont last long

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/product-reviews/B001IA12KS/ref=cm_cr_dp_all_recent?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1&sortBy=bySubmissionDateDescending

Certainly a significant improvement in light output over the manufacturer's standard bulbs, but oh dear, they both failed within a week of each other, after only 8 months driving

I bought these bulbs for both my car and my daughters car in early 2009. The ones I put in my car lasted about 2 months. The ones I installed in my daughters faired no better. Disappointing given their price to say the least. I have not tried again.

    I might for H4 Philips X-treme Vision

Osram Night Breakers had a reputation for breaking at night, Osram released an improved bulb called Night Breaker plus with longer life, but still shorter than a standard bulb (they don't even make any bones about it on the packaging). I put them in my high beams as I don't use those that often.

Phillips xtreme power seem to last forever, had a set in my old car for over a year, transferred them to my GF's car and still going strong. Xtreme vision I have no experience of though. Bit this website reckons they last longer http://www.regalautobulbs.co.uk/products/philips-xtreme-vision-h7.php although they would be biased as they are selling them.
