Has anyone tried the new Philips extreme vision bulbs that has just come out this month. They are supposed to be 100% brighter than the standard bulb. I think the extreme power are rated at 80%.
The only down side is that they are a lot more expensive than the power ones.
Is the Extreme vision worth the extra outlay ?
Not heard of them, will look into a pair if a decent price. (£35 or less I think).

I want to upgrade my headlight bulbs as well, but not sure if the extreme vision is worth the extra £15 compared to the power ones

If you want a real difference and have a car you intend to keep a while, why not invest in a proper HID (High Intensity Discharge) kit? It's expensive, but after reading that some bulbs are like £100, I think it's worth considering! Admitedly, there's not kits for all makes and models on the market, and you need to have a proper kit and not a knock off one.

Sadly aftermarket kits are deemed illegal on the public highway. See http://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/roadsafety/drs/hidheadlamps Retrofitting genuine ones is often more trouble than it's worth. I would say, if you value headlights, next time you buy a car make sure it has factory fit xenons.

    You can't beat good xenons!

Define genuine? Do you mean kits that are bought from the manufacturer for that car, but only certain models? I was refering to legal ones, proper kits, not dodgy ones that have no beam patterns (full kits with headlamp lenses included)

You still need the self levelling mechanisms, washer jets etc to be legal. I doubt anyone would see such a task as economically viable. Buy a car with them IMO :)

Many people report no issues with the cheap crap aftermarket stick em in your halogen unit ones in terms of MOT or police tugs, but it's a risk you take if you fit them.

Is Stigy still posting ill-informed advice.

For the record anyone considering changing there bulbs, Xenons are illegal to have fitted to your car if you use it on a public road unless serious modifications are made as anewman has stated.

Bulbs must have the BS standard marking on them to confirm they are public road legal to use - Do check this if buying on eBay as a lot of sellers will not put that in their listing or if you ask them they will be wary and say 'I haven't checked as there sealed in the packet!
  • im on my second set in 4 years. good life out of them i think compared to other bulbs ive tried. i tried osram nightbreakers they didn't even last 6 months before one blew.
ive noticed a difference in the philips extreme power bulbs compared to others aswell, its a more defined and concentrated light pattern i feel.
    ...work permit granted!
  • Got Philips Extreme's in both vehicles, no doubt at all that the light output is far better....also commented on favourably by my fair lady.

Some commnets on various forums suggest these higher output bulbs have a shorter life, this hasn't been the case in my experience, both sets must be around 3 years old now and show no signs of dimming.
