Tv licence agent threatening behaviour

Options
I got a call of a neighbour to state someone is trespassing on my property , i quickly went to my cctv where i see this man placing his arm over a locked gate and opening it even though warning signs are on this gate, he managed to open the gate and enter.

I quickly opened my window to shout out what are you doing, as you are trespassing on private property , he shouted out that he was here because im breaking the law , i said what the hell are you on about and get the off my property.

He then said he has a right to do this as he is a tv license agent and im the one breaking the law , i quickly told him that i suggest he goes get the police then as he will just show himself up because I've had tv license agent checking my property previously.

He was becoming more rude and shouting so all my neighbours could hear.

I must admit i was shouting back and i did say some swear words because i was so angry, he then said to me come down here then and see who's the big man then.

I took that as a threat , he left and said he is calling the police.

I feel so mad and angry right now , i just rang the tv license people to be told that i need to ring back before 5pm to speak to the right department.

What should i do about this and can i get done for threatening to set my dogs on him if he didn't leave my property?

So just accept someone threatening me in my own home and trespassing on my property?

Next time i think ill just let my dog bite him because is it not his fault if he comes in locked area warning of dogs?

This man tone to me was rude right from the start , if he was polite i wouldnt of needed to shout back or be rude

I find it disgusting how they can carry on like this and get away with it , if it was an old lady or someone vunerable he would of really of scared them

Write to the TVL and tell them you are withdrawing their implied right of access.

Then if anyone from TVL sets foot on your land you can shoot them!

(that last bit is not true)

He has no right to speak to you or enter your property so you can happily tell him to f++k off

Do remember that when dealing with TVL personnel, they are simply employees of a private company contracted to the BBC (who use the moniker TVL for PR purposes).

Consequently they have no special rights or privileges beyond that of the paperboy, and certainly not the same powers as the police, and cannot "interview you under caution", or even enter your property unless invited. Unless you are silly enough to invite them in, the only way they can gain access is by applying for a warrant from the court (which requests under the freedom of information act has revealed that simply not appearing on the BBC database and non cooperation with BBC will not result in a warrant being issued) and only then in the presence of a uniformed police officer.

Of course, they want us to think otherwise. You can quite legitimately tell them where to get off.

Yes the OP has not mentioned that also they have had TV License people visit before so there is obviously some sort of issue.

Wouldn't it make more sense for the OP to find out what the problem is and why the TVL think they haven't got a license. Much better than getting a fine and a ccj in my book,

Just because TVL have visited the property previously that is no indication that the OP either has or needs a licence.

He'd have to be prosecuted, found guilty and then fail to pay the fine, first.

His best course of action is to withdraw their right of access. If they wish, they can obtain a warrant to enter his premises.
