  • I got 3 C's and i pay for my own holidays... plus I get to pay 2 grand stamp duty soon on my first home. I didn't do tv studies though, that might have been more fun than Genetics

3 C's ain't what it used to be.

Kids get a C now just for writing your name on the paper.
My policies are based not on some economics theory, but on things I and millions like me were brought up with: an honest day's work for an honest day's pay; live within your means; put by a nest egg for a rainy day; pay your bills on time; support the police - Margaret Thatcher.
  • It was only 8 years ago, when C's were still C's. I blame the pub personally, or me, I guess it's old-fashioned to blame myself for my own fortunes.

On the plus side, i did get a masters in computational biology
  • thanks for all the replies.

for those hardcore about 'labour is all great and faultless', and to the others who are saying they should get a job.

Thses students who have a kid on the way will end up almost £30000 in debt between them by the time they finish uni. being in there 2nd/3rd year into the course they are concentrating more on there studies at mo. besides even if my friend graduates as a midwife, at start she is still only looking at £17,000 a year, her fella possibly £20,000 - (unlike some other graduates who seem to think they will be earning £30,000 - £50,000/year when they have finished - dream on!)

then comes the fact they would need to buy a house, a cheap house in my town comes with a price tag of £125,000 + 30,000 (student debt burden) + all the other costs.

Labour in a nutshell - up to 18 months to be seen for a simple hip-op, 4 hour wait at hospitals to be seen in emergency, having to book a minimum of 72 hours befor a consultation with GP, Dentists - 1st find one (mine is 25 miles away!) - then pay a fortune!, Council tax increase, gas and elec increase, rampant inflation - house prices for most unaffordable, public transport (little difference there!), roads - heavily congested, ongoing roadworks and potholed like mad, childplaces at nuseries limited, underinvested schools and hospitals and now students are having to live a life of misery.

now i agree some things said above would not be directly involved with labour or the govt but i believe there are connections all be it indirectly - for example, coalfields we had them, we closed them and now we depend on others for fuel.

    so summarised:
    Students - hate the governement
    Houseowners - hate the govt
New mums - hate the govt (were better with tories - so ive heard)
working parents - hate the govt
    pensioners hate the govt

TV license payers - 'no comment' (yes we all kno the answer!)

I just hate people who reckon I should pay loads of tax to subsidise other people's lifestyle choices and kids to a better quality than I can have working full time... if she's training to be a midwife - maybe she should retake the module on how ladies get babies in their tummies. They've made their choices and that's fine but why on earth you or them want me involved paying for their choices I've no idea. If they want to play happy families maybe Mr. Sperm-Donor should grow-up get a job and support HIS family.

Why do they need to own their own house, there's not law (or right) that states that you must own your own home. Renting, in some cases, can prove the cheaper option over the longer term.

We could always adopt the French model of provision of public services. I'm not quite sure if the British public is willing to pay the French rates for them yet though.

    "Responsibilty"
    "Self-reliance"

These are still in the dictionary, right?

Well said! I earnt £30k every year from the age of 21 to 29. Still couldn't afford to buy anything on my own in the South east. Work that out as a tax contribution and I'll be B**gered if I'm happy with some up the duff dole bludger reserving the right to buy a home!
