Hi folks,
Next week we're publishing a new tax code guide and tax code checker on the back of the fiasco over tax codes.
We're 85% there at the moment and would really love your feedback if you've ten minutes to go through it

Next week we're publishing a new tax code guide and tax code checker on the back of the fiasco over tax codes.
We're 85% there at the moment and would really love your feedback if you've ten minutes to go through it
What'd we like to know
- Do you like it?
- Any unanswered questions?
- Is the tax code checker helpful?
- Anything we may have missed?
- Does it all make sense?
- Anything you think we have got wrong?
- Please try and break the tool with different entries and let us know if it works- or any glitches.
Things that aren't finished - It's hasn't been fully grammar or spelling proof read (no need to report errors)
- We're getting the final checks from a couple of tax professionals, so they may have some tweaks - so do beware acting on the info.
- There are some improvements to the look and layout to come.
- There are some notes in there about thingsd to add (e.g. finding a tax adviser) - just ignore them for now

It seems you have entered an incorrect tax code
yes i also got this but once i filled the boxes in again it worked , It also didnt recognise im on an emergency tax code as well.
My tax code at the moment is 647L M1(according to my payslip) . It did'nt seem to recognise the M1 bit and said im on the right tax code and i know i am not.
Not sure how relevant that is , and if its what your looking for. Just thought i'd mention it

Looks good, but it doesn't seem to cover my situation
I've got a ill health pension (so under 65) and getting taxable & non-taxable benefit (ESA & DLA). So I have 2 tax code, one for each.
My 2 taxable incomes are each under my free pay limit, but together are over my free pay limit, so I have to pay tax.
My tax limit is that of someone under 65, so the pension part doesn't apply since they have higher free pay limits.
Your guide covers pensions, but not ill health pensions or taxable benefit, unless I've missed it.
(Also maybe a little off track, what happens if you're under the free pay limit on your wages / pension, but have saving and including that interest puts you above the free pay limit).0 -
Which taxcode do I use? On my wage slip its 653L and the one on the letter informing me I've overpaid tax in 08/09 earlier this month (got cheque today!) states my taxcode is 663S.
Thank you.0 -

If you forgive me - Im going to answer "its all in the article" as that's the point the article should work without any additional info and that's what testing is for - if it doesnt help do let us know.Martin Lewis, Money Saving Expert.

.
Why would you want to check your Code for 08-09 ..... when HMRC have already done a computation for that year (the P800 you have)?
Put the current year one (10-11) in ..... ie 653L.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
