Hi Martin, just a little point, but may take some panic out of some people. The T at the end isn't necessarily because your code is complex or changes frequently. In fact, I look after the tax affairs of an old lady of 98 who has a T after her code and her situation is anything but complex and hasn't changed in 8 years. I think the T means rather that it's simply reviewed each year.

Also, when I spoke recently to HMRC, they are WAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYY behind, and I was told that they're at present looking at 2008-9, so that would make a delay of 2 whole years, soon to be 3. Would this affect your Tax Code Checker, as it's all out of date in that case?:(

Its not clear what pre tax earnings I need to enter. Is it last years actual earnings, this years predicted earnings or my monthly salary ?!
Apart from that it looks pretty good :)
    :hello:
  • no comment on the tool really, but i would like to say thank you - as i tried to enter my tax code BR and it didnt like it - so i went and checked online, and i have been paying Basic Rate tax, with no personal allowances for at least the last 3 years!

so - i'm looking out for my refund in the post!

thanks - i would not have noticed otherwise!!!! another win for the mse website!!!

  • Thank you, without testing this I wouldn't have realised that I was on an emergency tax code. Started a new job at the begining of September and despite supplying them with my P45 I have somehow ended up on a BR tax code. Will definitely be ringing HMRC tomorrow.

Just to say thanks to all the feedback here (and the facebook lot too).

It's really useful - having read it I actually think we need simplify things a little - and so we're going to hold of the launch for a week - while we do some tweaks to make that happen

Thanks, have just done a "routine" check, and found government site incomprehensible. Your tax code checker says I am possibly underpaying, which fits with professional expenses I claimed in the past. So it looks like the tax relief application from 2 years ago is brought forward and continued, which is what I had hoped to find.
    Thank you.
