  • Before I tabbed down the page (and then saw your explanation), I was wondering what had happened to the ML savings! So have you now just got the one loan and the ML savings account? That would seem easier.

Normally I would go for a walk at lunchtime. But at the moment, it is better if I conserve my energy and stay at work. Today, I started making a list of things I would like to get done around the flat before I sell it. There was quite a list and I was only thinking about 3 rooms! I will need to be more realistic in due course or I will never move!

I am a bit in limbo at the moment. On the money front, there is no great urgency to bring money in and I need to take it easy for a little while. That said, I am still trying to make a little progress so I feel like I am achieving something. I have cherry picked some MSs so have two coffee shops and an expensive food shop tomorrow which are all nice, quick jobs and very close by. I can't match your recent cashback haul, but I have £15 to come which is money for nothing :D.

Hope you have another good night's sleep x

  • dreamdreamer: it's such a quandry isn't it, trying to figure out the finances and childcare before baby even comes along. Although I'm panicking and not quite sure how we're going to manage, I have to remember we are in a much better position than a lot of people so I have to be thankful for that. You're right - no wonder we live in a benefit culture as there seems to be very little help for those trying to work and pay their way!

Chocs: Yes, we have one main bank account now, one tax/insurance/car savings pot and one maternity leave account - and the only debt is the loan. I know it's a big chunk taken out of the savings but it's made me feel so much more relaxed and we already have earmarked approx £300 - £400 extra which will go back in to the savings on top of the £600 a month we're putting in there, so that's a good start. :) I feel more positive about things this way!

It sounds like you need to take things easy at the moment and not overdo it too much. You can't put a price on your health and it seems you need to concentrate on that aspect of your wellbeing at the moment. As you said, there's no urgent need to bring the money in, so you can relax a little.

Nothing wrong with making plans though! Maybe take this down time as a chance to get a clear list sorted so you know exactly what it is you need to do to the flat and how you're going to do it. :)
  • I had a midwife appointment this morning so had the morning off work. :) All is fine, baby is in the correct position and measuring fine, it's just a waiting game now really.

Didn't have a great night's sleep as I was uncomfortable and have developed a stupid cough now, but am feeling ok today.

Last night I managed to get two loads of washing done and dried; downstairs was hoovered and the hard floors washed; I peeled enough potatoes for last night and tonight's dinner so that's saved me a job tonight; I emptied the recycle bins ad had a good general tidy up which felt good to do. I couldn't cancel the mobile insurance/utility thing as planned as I haven't received the paperwork from them yet. I'll chase that up in a week or so if I still haven't received it.

This morning I have made the spare bed up ready for my parents visit at the weekend. :D The kitchen's had a bit of a wipe down too.
There is also a chicken cooking in the slow cooker for tonight's meal, I'm really hoping that I turned the cooker down from high to low before I left the house though... I can't remember doing it, but I know I thought about it! :o

Tonight I just need to do one more load of washing to completely eradicate washing mountain. Apart from that and get the dinner ready, the evening's free - oh, need to pick hubby up from work again too as he's working late all this week.

    Have a good day all

  • Good to hear the baby is doing fine :D. And lovely that your parents are coming up to stay for the weekend.

I've had a funny kind of day, popping around town for a few appointments, errands and shopping. I'm back now for a couple of hours so I can input my MSs and get something to eat before heading out again. I have booked an appointment with the nurse at 7pm which must have seemed like a better idea when I booked it than it does now :rotfl:

I know you are right about me needing to be patient and taking things easy. So today I am going to be thankful that I got a couple of small things done from the list. The gardening materials I bought in preparation for growing a few things on my patio (which never happened :o) have gone to the recycling shop. The recycling shop is like a charity shop but bigger so they take house and garden stuff. I also took some big cardboard containers to the tip recycling area which wouldn't fit in our local recycling units so have freed a little space :).

    Have a nice evening x

  • Sounds like you've been busy enough Chocs! I like the sound of your recycling shop - especially if they stock gardening stuff too - I love the garden. I can't wait until the weather warms up and I can get out then and give ours some TLC. I am planning on growing a lot more veg this year as I only managed potatoes, runner beans and tomatoes last year. The celery was planted too late so didn't really come to much, plus I planted way too much considering hubby hates it! Oh - we did have loads of courgettes - TOO MANY really - we got sick of them!

We have blueberries in our garden but they didn't do very well last year and they need some attention. As for strawberries, well, I think we had two edible ones from last year's plants!

I received two bulb and seed catalogues in the post the past couple of days so I'm going to browse those and get some ideas. :)

Have a lovely evening too, hope the appointment with the nurse goes well.

  • After an awful night of hardly any sleep due to coughing violently, I relented and went to the pharmacist in Tesco this morning, spending over £8 on cough/cold and flu stuff! I hope it works, I'm aching from coughing and sure baby is not enjoying it much either.

61p transferred over to the ML account this morning. I still have £20 in my purse that needs to be paid into the savings but I keep forgetting. I'll try and remember to give it to hubby tonight so he can pay it into the bank tomorrow for me, then I can update the figures. :)

Washing mountain was finally defeated last night, so just the usual day to day bits to do now when there's enough for a load. I sorted out some more cardboard boxes leftover from Christmas and put them out for recycling last night, decluttering another little space. :)

The slow cooker chicken was warmly welcomed after picking hubby up from work and there was enough left over for hubby's lunch today. I shall confess to buying a packet of cup a soups today in tesco for my lunch as I just want something light, hot and good for the throat.

I wrapped up some more birthday and Christmas gifts last night too (yes, Christmas!). I'm going to get someone to put the Christmas gifts in a suitcase in the loft for me at the weekend along with some of December's birthday gifts which are already wrapped, just to get them out of the way. I'm loving the new organised me! For us, I think this works really well - even though I may come across as being slightly crazy...

I have NO work to do at work today, so I'm not confident the day will fly by... there's only so much time one can waste on the internet!
  • I've been emailed a free delivery code from Sainsbury's online, so have just placed a grocery order for after we get paid on the 25th. I've spent £70 but have gone to town on stocking up on some store cupboard basics so we won't have to go out shopping much or spend a lot in the first few weeks of the little person being here.

Cough still not letting up, am hoping combination of paracetamol, baby-friendly cough syrup, throat sweets, drinking a silly amount of water and hot soup will kick in soon... I can't handle another night like last night! :(
  • I'm that bored, I've worked out the exact amount of debt we have left to repay... will be quite motivational watching the figure go down every month. :D

    *Still coughing* :mad::mad::mad:
