Because I had them 'in my basket' there was no hurry to put my details in. I am not a returning customer, who I thought would have an advantage but they don't really as I was a couple of mins putting my details in right and even when I missed out my 'state' and went back, I still had them.

    Pleased you succeeded!

Actually having them in the "basket" meant nothing, I got a £1 room in the basket a few times but got the "invalid rate type" message only after typing in my details.

Confused here. I may have got a £1 room, but I'm not sure. Picked the dates, filled in payment details, hit 'Finish Reservation', got taken to the Terms & Conditions page, so seemingly complete - but no sign of any confirmation, no screen to print, no email received, so . . . . . do I have a room ? What have others had by way of confirmation ??

You needed to click on "I agree" to agree the Terms and Conditions.

I got to that stage a few times only to be told "invalid rate type" ie the room wasn't available.

Oh right, that's when the message was coming up for people. Well, I guess I was just very lucky.

BUT I ALSO GOT 1 room for 3 nights @ £1 per night for my mum

As per the other board, these may get cancelled.

Hope not, I'll have my fingers crossed for you.

I was really frustrated with this, was trying from 12.30 where there were loads of rooms but couldnt get any. Tried over and over again and kept seeing the availibility dissapearing.

Kept getting "Invalid Room Rate" after I clicked submit. Arrrrrrgh

I posted on the grabbit thread that the frustration is understandable.

Most of the problems are because there was too much ambiguity / error on the site / email link re booking - or maybe they designed it like that so fewer people would be being processed at the same time and it wouldn't crash! People who got the rooms were not those who were first in line but those who used html and not the flash system. A matter of luck that they used the version that worked!

The hotel will be wishing it had gone a bit better too ( I hate to think of the number of emails they'll be getting from people who dont know if they've actually got a room or not!) Although they will be getting a lot of new business through those chuffed with their £1 rooms, they may have lost a lot more from those who missed out (if you felt the reason you didnt get a room was that you were just too late, you'd be more likely to consider the hotel in future and pass on the info to friends than if you felt they had "robbed" you of your cheap deal! ). Or is there no such thing as bad publicity?

Also, and please, no-one take this personally because I blame the website and definitely not the people who actually got the £1 rooms! - but it probably doesn't help frayed tempers to read that others have booked more than one room or for more than one night, and for others to say if you didnt get the room it was your own fault for not using html/ the right link. (I went through the link in the email they sent and then used the flash system ( and so didn't get a room ) because that's what came up).

Basically, we shouldn't all be falling out about it - congratulations if you got the room and commiserations if you didn't - it wasn't very fair but it's just a hotel room after all!

    Well said !

If I had missed out, I would have been happy for others who got the room as it's one over the hotel for the MSE'rs.

I miss out on concert tickets all the time, but I don't get stressed about it.

I personally didn't find the booking system too bad - the only thing was having to click on the day you want to check out.

I practiced booking before the offer started - so when the dates came up etc it was all done in seconds.

And I used the flash version !!
