Yep...constantly running on cold start and spending lots of time sat idling in traffic jams and at lights. The urban figure tends to be for pootling around at 30MPH with no hold ups.0

I have a 2L diesel & last winter my MPG was 28.5. But filled up one evening with little traffic, reset the display and it showed 62mpg on the way home.
Longer journeys kept it above 50mpg for ages, But as soon as the short trips started again it dropped.
Average 38mpg.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Average 38mpg.
38 is extremely poor from a 2 litre diesel, my 165bhp Fiat diesel is averaging 48 (according to ecodrive)0 -
Depends what sort of journeys you do - round town I can get sub-35 MPG on a cold journey.cardinalbiggles wrote: »38 is extremely poor from a 2 litre diesel
If I take the country route to Uni (lots of corners, lose lots of momentum and then use the turbo to bring it back up to speed) I will get ~42 MPG. If I take the nice straight road I can see 50+Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -
Always makes me smile when folks think a service is suddenly going to double the mpg of a car. The only thing covered in a service of a modern car that will effect mpg, unless your have warning lights on, and I assume the op doesn't, is the condition of the air filter and that won't make that much difference.
Have you got 4 flat tyres;)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -

If you average that doing the same journey's i do i will buy your car off you lol.
Approx 4 miles to take the old dears to the doctors, 15 junctions/islands, I start the car at least 4 times, Sometimes i leave it running as they get in and out. Depending on the weather.
I get upto 4th gear for approx 100 yards, 38mpg is excellent, Much better than the petrol car i had before.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Is there a problem should i get the car seen to ?
and its a 1.4 petrol manual btw
I have a Honda Civic 1.8 ES Automatic and have a Digital Fuel Consumption Display that I reset after each fill up. I usually get 38MPG around town but if I go on a long run it shoots up to 45MPG. I find it fascinating seeing how the consumption figure changes with the driving conditions. My dashboard also has a set of small green lights to show how heavy I am on the accelerator!.To Dare is To Do:beer:0 -
How far is the school? If it is less than say 1 mile it is no surprise that your mileage is poor and I would make the little darlings walk.

We live about a mile from school and still sometimes drive.
I'm not going to let anyone lecture to me about how I can or cannot use my paid for, well maintained, taxed and insured car. If YOU don't like what I do with my car then tough (that was the polite version).
Most of the time we walk - except on the two days when DD1 has gym and we pick her up, go home, get her fed and changed and straight off to gym.The man without a signature.0
