Driving style will always define a cars MPG not what the manufacturer states

What Mpg does it say in the digital clock menu?

My ReanultSport clio is a 2.0 litre with 197 bhp and i manage at the most 22/25 mpg

    Have you serviced it recently?

  • The average on the clock says 19 MPG, its been serviced april 2009 and im going to book it for another one tomorrow , driving is mainly stopping at traffic lights and going uphill or down cuz im in sheffield so quite alot of hills lol

The official figures should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Make sure the car is serviced, check fluid levels and tyre pressures.

If you sit in traffic a lot then the mpg will be poor. Even more so on short journeys where the car never warms up properly and the engine runs rich all the time.

    wow 19mpg in a 1.4 is terrible

As stated though traffic, hills etc all kill consumption but i'm sure with a service, new plugs etc you'll get into the 30's hopefully.

Thats what i was thinking i wanted a fuel efficient car not a fuel thirsty car lol but gonna get it serviced soon so hopefully will push up the MPG a little!

  • It'll be more acurate than what the dash is saying.

If you've "just" bought the car then the dash readout may be using calculations of the previous owner for mpg. He might have been sitting with the engine on for half an hour waiting for his missus to finish work. Brim to brim is the only way forward.

  • if your only doing school run not far from home the engine isnt warming up so auto chalk will be on useing that bit of fuel extra, plus if you have auto climate control try turning the aircon off also.
