  • I have been using Brother 1034D for last 7 months and I'm happy with the result. It has 22 built-in stitch functions with 4-thread overlock, 3-thread overlock, narrow, rolled hem.

I have just acquired a Medion overlocker, virtually brand new. I believe it was bought from Aldi. I have managed to thread it up and it does work apart from the tension. The instructions are not easy to follow and I just cannot seem to get it right. I seem to have loops at the edge - 4th thread. I have tried several settings but nothing seems to work. Any ideas/help would be very much appreciated. I should say I have the manual but the tension instructions are confusing.
  • Sorry Ladybird, I read this a few days ago but have had to think about it, as I haven't used mine for a couple of months. There's a really good book called 'the Overlocker Technique Manual' by Julia Hincks which is useful, especially if you don't have a good manual.

Is it a needle or a looper thread that that is not working? It can be a slow process finding out what needs changing, your best bet is to set all the tension settings to 0, stitch a bit of scrap fabric (and mark it with a biro so you know what the settings were!) and then change each one in turn to see what effect it has. Apologies if you've already tried this! Loops suggest that the tension on that one is too loose. Threading each one in a different colour is helpful.

You might want to try posting on the Sewing thread, I am by no means an overlocker expert but there are some others on there with more experience.

Many thanks. Will certainly try stitching a bit of fabric on each setting. That sounds a good idea.
  • I would always advise on buying a brand new overlocker with a warranty

Yes in an ideal world. Unfortunately we don't live in an ideal world so some people have to buy secondhand.
