Where can I get the fluffy ( not the technical name I'm sure) cotton to roll edge a table cloth?

It might be easier to look if I knew the proper name. :o

    Hello Rikki

The 'technical term' is woolly nylon.

There is some here but I'm sure most sewing supplies outlets will sell it. I've often seen it on market stalls.

  • or www.empressmills.co.uk - they call it 80s bulk for some reason or they do it in a floss which is lovely for covering edges but tends to break a bit more easily -so you have to take it slowly.

Hi. I have just bought a 2nd hand Riccar overlocker and was surprised how quickly I threaded it from the manual. The machine seems to work fine. I have tried it on an old T shirt and the only problem is that the inner straight rows of stitches aren't tight enough and when turned to the right side, pull apart and show. Can anyone help with what I'm doing wrong, please?

When I got mine, I threaded it with 4 different colours, so I could tell which needed tension adjustment. I've still got the scrap in my sewing box, and still refer to it.
It sounds as if you need to tighten the tension on the stitch you're not happy with.

    Ditto Jazzy.
I tried all the stitches in the four different colours and played around altering the tension. It helps give you a feel for the machine.

Also and rather surprisingly threading the machine in the wrong order can sometimes make a difference.

I have sworn may a time and just unthreaded my machine and started again. Sometimes this is easier and quicker than trying anything else.

Keep practicing and you will get there. :)

Thank you. I only have white thread at the moment, but will get other colours and do as you suggest.

    Hi!
I am hoping for for some advice regarding overlockers please.
Have got Tesco clubcard vouchers to the value of £80 which can double up to £160 spend value at Tesco if I double up today.

Now I don't want to fritter them away on dribs and drabs but would like use for something useful and thought of getting an overlocker BUT I have never actually used one! :o

Tesco only do 2 - a Toyota which is £120 and a Singer at £285 (but it is cheaper on Sainsburys and Asda online sites)

Now my dilemma is which one do I go for - the Toyota which doesn't have differential feed (acc to Argos website) or the Singer which I will have to put extra cash towards and is cheaper elsewhere? :(

Also does anyone know whether I would get cash refund or vouchers if I needed to take it back to Tesco? (With the double up offer would I get the double up value or original value? I can't look on the Tesco website as for some reason the computer freezes!)

    TIA

    Hi bigmuffins,

I don't know the first thing about overlockers but this thread may help:

    Overlockers - advice please!

Regarding the vouchers, if you return an item you will only get the amount of the original vouchers that were used to purchase it back. This is from their terms and conditions:
Items purchased with an Exchange token can only be exchanged, with a receipt, for goods in the same category to the same value. Any refunds for purchases made using Exchange tokens will be equivalent to the Clubcard voucher value originally exchanged.

You can read the full terms and conditions here

Thanks Pink, couldn't look on the Tesco website for info on vouchers as computer freezes every time! Have to use another computer when need to do Tesco shopping!

Back to overlocker question - has anyone got/ used either or both of these please? I can't tell from the specs which one to go for. Last time I looked, there was only the Toyota on offer and I would have tried that but am now thinking it may be better to get the Singer (sold in John Lewis so can't be bad?) and pay the extra?

Hope an overlocking expert will come to my rescue!
    :)

have you looked on amazon or reevoo for the machines? Amazon if they stock it will have customer reviews to llok at, I find it quite useful ;)
