Help with my Netbook!

Hi,

I bought a netbook from Carphone Warehouse in January just to keep on top of my emails and update my CV and browse Facebook and the likes, Anyhow for some reason it picked up a virus:eek: (ive since found out they can be picked up from a lot of facebook apps) and I had it removed by the tech guys at CPWH for a lovely fee of £7.99 for three months.

However... They said it was a really bad virus and took them ages to remove it, they said it had damaged my computer so much that It wouldn't allow connection to the net,(neither wired or wireless) and that the only way to fix it was to get a CD with the factory settings on (XP/Vista) I think and install that. They said I could order one from the manufacturers but it would cost about £50:mad:

Because its a netbook, it doesn't have a CD drive so I am just wondering if there is anything else I can try because I dont want to order the CD for it to come and not fit?

Can anyone help me!

Perhaps you could begin with the make and full model number of the machine?
  • would have though a recovery partition was present on a netbook too... do answer Donnie's questions.
  • Erm, I'm pretty sure its a Compaq Mini 110c

I tried getting the programme I need and installing it using an external drive but my computer was having none of it!

Kate, what was the error message??
  • There wasn't an error message as such that I can remember, Just wouldn't load or acknowledge the fact that the Drive was attatched. Think the virus damaged the ability for it to recognise anything plugged in to the USB slots as memory stick is not able to be read either.

    Debt-free and Proud!
Have you tried pluggin in when in safemode?

Keep pressing 'F8' during bootup, and select safe mode (no networking) at the menu. I reckon we can still rescue it for you ;)

Can then try doing an anti virus scan / malwarebytes spyware scan. I'd download these program to USB stick, but come back and let us know if a USB stick is recognised first (in safe mode)

Is there a program named Recovery Manager in your Program list?
