The OP does not say how old her child is and some of the earlier responses don't say how old their children are - so OP I would take some of these negative comments with a pinch of salt depending on how old your child is.

In terms of cost I would agree that Boots 3 for 2 might be your current best bet, or Amazon has it currently for £37.99.

If it's any help at all my son got this last Christmas when he was 4 and it's been very well used. He loves the games on the camera too. He's not bothered about the picture quality and I don't have to worry about it getting broken as it's so kid-proof. He also has the little kidilook picture frame which I think is quite overpriced but that's where he views the pics he's taken (I transfer them over and secretly delete the duffers lol). You could get a cheaper non v-tech digital handheld frame quite easily. But the point is that if that's where he's viewing them rather than the computer, the number of megapixels doesn't matter anyway. On the strength of our good experience and his good use of it, I've just picked one up for my daughter (who will be 3 shortly).

I still disagree, my son is 4 and he thinks its useless. The quality of them really is quite terrible. Sure its fun for about 2 seconds but as soon as he saw how the pictures came out he wasnt interested,he might only be 4 but hes not stupid,His exact words were 'its not a proper camera,i want proper pictures' . If they were cheaper then yeah sure you might buy one, but for the price they are - you maswell buy them a real camera lets face it.
    Having a coke with you
is even more fun than going to San Sebastian, Irun, Hendaye, Biarritz, Bayonne
or being sick to my stomach on the Travesera de Gracia in Barcelona

Everyone's entitled to their own opinions and you can't 'disagree' with their experience of a product just because it doesn't match your own!

At the end of the day, this product has always had mixed reviews so I think we should respect each others experiences even though they may be completely different to our own.

The main selling point is that if you buy a normal camera, it is not going to be kidproof. My kids are very careful and wear the neck strap when using my professional camera so I never thought it would be a problem for them.. but boy has this Kidizoom survived some smashes! Kids are going to have accidents, kids are not always going to wear the wrist strap of a good camera and also, they want to have unsupervised fun without me stressing over breakages.

It's all swings and roundabouts, I will repeat.. if your kid really wishes for this more than anything, then it is worth it. No one can predict how your kid will take to it, as we can see from the many mixed reviews here.

My son is having one for christmas..He raves at the pics he takes on freinds programs..Good to know the plus is so much better...I think that the experience of one child is not the same as the next.

I've been weighing up getting the kidizoom video camera as opposed to the plus camera. Has anyone got experiance comparing the two. The specs seem pretty much the same, apart from obviously one is a video camera. Are they both just as easy to work?

  • I don't just leave the kids to play with it on their own, I stimulate their imagination such as setting them tasks to find things in the garden, photograph it and bring the evidence back to me. I also pose countless amounts of time for those silly photographs where they stick a moustache on :D This might be why they are always picking it up.

Kids are funny things though and so beautifully different that you can't guess if yours will love it or not, only hope. Get it if it's what she is trully asking for and wants with all her heart.

That's a great idea pinkladymel. I'm going to use it with my kids - ask them to find something and then reward them for it. Been kinda stressed lately so this will be a lovely, fun, free thing for them to do knowing that mummy's involved too. One camera two kids - better get the kiddizoom back out of the toy box and try to get my two year old to use it.
Sounds quite pathetic but I think I loved the blue kiddizoom more than my son did. I'm such a sucker for lovely bright things and packaging etc!!
  • We bought the Lego kids camera last year for our grand-daughter (aged 4 at the time). Accident proof & funky looking plus it takes pretty good photos 2MP? Had much better reviews than the kidizoom or ones of that ilk.
She'd already ruined 2 her parents had by dropping them so needed something a bit more childproof. She's still overjoyed with it & takes it everywhere.

It's horrible when you're stressed and then you feel immense guilt for not having so much time to spend with them. I hope they love the idea and you get some happy memories from it :A

I'm a sucker for pink.. so I am kinda in love with the Pink Kiddizoom :rotfl:

We did have a very embarassing incident though where my daughter decided to burst in on me when I was getting dressed and take a picture (right now, she thinks a 'bare bum' is highly hilarious') and after being told this was not a good thing to do, we said no more about it. Fast forward 5 months later to a family meal with 32 close relatives. She begins passing around her camera for everyone to see when my aunt starts scrolling through the pics..:o

Wish i'd a) remembered to delete b) continued the diet!!

Oh my goodness! I am so surprised at all the negative comments! We were sniffy about this camera when my now 6 yr old asked for it for Christmas 2 years ago. We did not get it. Roll on 2 years and our 3 (now 4) yr old requested it for Christmas. The only thing on her list.
We have 6 kids aged 18months, 41/5, 6, 8, 9 and 11. The oldest 3 all have 'proper' digital cameras/ The eldest uses his a little. The 9 year old (girl) hardly at all. The 8 year old girl has used her 8megapixel Samsung twice.
We bought the Pink Kidizoom for our 3 year old. What a fantastic toy. She absolutely loved it. It can be thrown around, the baby can have a go, she can use it by herself (as in, delete, use the games and programs) It is a great toy. We had to buy it for the 6 yr old for her birthday (Boxing Day! Poor child) and she absolutely loves it. One of the most used toys ever. Quite often find the older kids playing with them. The 8 yr old wishes she had one instead of her proper one!
That said we are a family who don't really 'do' computer games. They are not very keen Nintendo-ers and the Xbox and Wii don';t really do it for them. perhaps if your kids are gadget kids, then this is not for them. But I rate it very highly as a good toy, whihc in our house in the year we have owned 2 have been consistently really well used. In a way that hundreds of toys that have enetred our house, have not.
I would only rate above it, the Micro scooter, and a decent Supertramp Trampoline.

So I wouldn't read and worry about some of the really off putting comments, I would think about your child and what they like to do. If they are already using older siblings noraml cameras and DS's etc, then they will perhaps expect higher spec items. But this is a good toy, and well worth The £30 I spent on them.
:starmod: I am not that savage :heartpuls But I am a Vixen :staradmin
