    Sim,

Well done on nearly 3 weeks sober. You doing great mate! Before you know it, it will be 1 month and so on, just keep strong.

I am sorry to hear about your friend not being supportive, try to block her out if you can. If she calls and is negative which you feel is sucking all the positivity out of you, just make an excuse and hang up.

Can you not tell your other mate that you are trying to sober up and that you would appreciate his help in staying sober?

I am really pleased to hear about your training and the financial progress that you seem to have made! £200!! That is excellent news! :j

Keep at it and before you know it you will have cleared it all.

Don't worry about writing your thoughts / frustrations on here, even if they non-debt related - I am sure people, or at least I personally, would rather you vented your frustration on here then use bottles of vodka / whiskey as a crutch.

You are making great progress, remember one day at a time.

    Keep strong.

I totally agree with you Eyeopener2.

I too am a recovering alcoholic and, as we both know, the core problem is the alcohol. Depression and all the other problems have their root in the booze.

I know it seems impossible now but you can beat the addiction. It sounds a cliche but 'One day at a time' (or even one hour at a time) is the key to overcoming your dependence.

Do this and all the other problems will seem solvable. You will be in a better position to seek a good job. ( see you have some university qualifications)

You come across as a likeable, intelligent, decent person who has the misfortune to be an alcholic. Being an alcholic does not mean you are a bad person, although, as I remember all too well, this is exactly what you will feel about yourself at the moment.

Your very first priority, way way before the money problems, is to get yourself help and support with your drinking and I can promise you everything will become better.

Is there any possibilty that you could get residential re-hab? I am sure this would help you a lot more because you seem to be struggling alone and this can only make reaching for the bottle easier. You need breathing space to get sober. I tried the AA route and they were very good at making me see that I could do it but, I eventually did it by myself. I came to my 'rock bottom' and actually did not want to drink any more. However, although I don't even think about booze anymore, I know that just one drink will breach the dam and I will soon be back on the slippery slope again. Like I said before - one day at a time.

I was a lot more lucky than you, I had a supportive family and no money worries. I have had a couple of 'slips' but always knew that the only way forward was total abstinence.

I wish you everything you wish for your self.

    Have courage.

From one to another (recovering alcoholic) please have a long chat with your worker. When you get your drinking under control then the money problems will seem like a walk in the park. My first issue was drinking, I have stopped that (9 months now) and the spending has stopped, the debt is reducing and I am "on the up" as well.

Speak to your caseworked, ask advice on the money situation from CAB (ring them to make an appointment today). The debt is nothing compared to your health.

I can't tell you to stop drinking, it has to come from you, but you know that.

My two demons are drink and debt, both of which I face down each day (one day at a time remember) and i'm winning so far. You will get all the support you need on here, and from CAB and from your caseworker. Your not alone and if you want to win, you can.
