i know there was a big issue with this when the iphone 4 first came out and apple were offering free bumpers to resolve the issue, i notice they stopped giving out free bumpers on 30th september. does that mean that phones purchased after that time should no longer have the problem?
i purchased a sim free iphone from apple store yesterday and lose signal quite quickly when held with my left hand. should this still be occuring with a newly purchased phone?

I think I'm right in saying Apple never acknowledged a fault, so it's unlikely they fixed it.

The 'bumper' was a bodge fix; the whole fiasco was a PR disaster (a rare thing indeed for Apple).

okay, i assumed when they stopped giving out the free bumpers they had resolved the issue.
will see how it goes when im making calls. not ideal though for a £500 phone.
  • I resolved it by buying a £2.50 case from Amazon. Not ideal as the problem shouldn't be there in the first place, but as I was going to buy a case anyway, I'm not too bothered!

OH has a free bumper and the phone drops calls a lot.

Appointment at the local Genius bar next week to see what they say

You can still download the apple free case app and order a free case. There are no bumpers available but still worth it for the free case. I ordered one the other day and its due to ship in a few weeks.

There was no problem per se to fix, as what you're experiencing is the reduction in antenna performance due to it being covered with your hand. The issue is, Apple put the antenna in a silly place, which is very easy to cover with your hand, so the only true solution is for the antenna to be moved, which it won't be until at least the iPhone 5 next year.

cant find that app on itunes
  • Someone on another thread said Three were expecting an iPhone 4 with a "fix" for the signal loss to be available in November and that they weren't shipping any orders until these revised iPhones came through.

It was also quoted that at the end of September when the free case offer closed they'd be shipping new hardware with an antenna fix. that didn;t happen.

Apple have pretty much put the whole antenna issue behind them, anyone buying one now should be aware of the issue and can't claim they were not. Ad despite the huge media storm surrounding it they are still selling by the container load.

Next iphone will most likely be June, there are always rumours about about new Apple products, the only thing new may be the white variant of Iphone 4, Same internals just different case colour.
