Any way to get around passport renewal fees?

Dictionary Definition of Allow:
to give permission to or for; permit: to allow a student to be absent; No swimming allowed.
They can only 'allow' it if they know about it. FACT.
Whereas the link for the ES Story is
So, they didn't 'allow' it. It was a mistake. They never, in FACT, would have 'allowed' an MP to take a knife through security.
I only posted this as I saw the word 'FACT' in capitals, at which point I knew it was virtually guaranteed not, in fact, to be a 'FACT'.
So that makes it OK then, as it was a 'mistake.'0 -
It might be me (and probably is) but I'm confused about this post.
The OP is 'Martin Lewis for King'.
So what does Louisdf have to do with the OP?
Where does it say anywhere that either the OP or Louisdf are studying at Birmingham Uni?
Pollycat, no it's me, sorry :embarasse
I meant to refer to Louisdf who agrees with the OP, Martin Lewis for King, that passport fee is a rip off.0 -

Loiusdf claims to have needed a passport to enrol at Birmingham University0 -
I hate to say it, but UK citizens are being well and truly screwed on the cost of passports. I've got both an ID card and biometric passport - and they cost me the equal of 30 pounds for both. I go to a local office to get them (one in every municipality) and it's processed and produced within two weeks. I go back to pick it up.
A real "rip off" is the way that overseas UK citizens are charged much, much more than those resident in the UK.From Poland...with love.
They are (they're) sitting on the floor.
Their books are lying on the floor.
The books are sitting just there on the floor.0 -

If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -

I think that this is a specious argument. UK citizens also pay the APD to get out of the UK. The fact is that a UK citizen pays $14 more than a US citizen to make a round trip between the UK and US.
I would suggest that we just don't go there. Last time I entered the US by land I was hardly made to feel welcome. "Thumbrint, thumbrint, stare into the camera, $6: US funds only" Meanwhile my Canadian wife and children wandered through unmolested.0 -
I am annoyed by the bumper rise in UK passport costs over the past few years, but I view it as a form of general taxation. Consular services overseas need to be paid for, and what is raised in passport fees doesn't need to be raised elsewhere.
However as a parent of three children I do feel hammered. Children pay more per year than adults since their passports only last five years. I look with envy at the Irish. Their government charges €80 for adults but only €26.50 for children (sorry not allowed to post the link). Check your family ancestry. You might qualify!0
