Any way to get around passport renewal fees?

Anyone know if there's a way to get around these fees? My passport's up for renewal but there's no rush for it or anything - jsut a standard renewal.

Do I really have to pay £77 for it????!!!

What a rip-off.

The only way out of it is if your are either 80 or 85 years old. Then its free.

I thought it was over £80 now.

Harly a rip off at around £8.00 a year, its hardly going to break the bank.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

No way to avoid the adult ten-year 32-page passport costs of £77.50 for standard service (unless you don't bother to renew :rotfl:)

You think ours is a rip off- I was just looking at the prices Australians have to pay (same for new and renewals)- at todays exchange rate £128 for a standard and £192 for the one with extra pages (our equiv is £90)
Americans pay more than us too. £85

Well yes - why would they state an incorrect price?

    What a rip-off.

Why is it a 'rip off'? How would you propose it was financed if no-one had to pay for it?
How would you envisage the staff being paid, the offices being rented, etc. etc.?

What is a rip off is America now charging $14 for ESTA!!!!!!
Mine had a few months to run and our daughters had about six months but we did new ones just before they started charging last month, unfortunately her partner who has just paid £77.50 for a new passport and has just had to pay $14 for ESTA last weekend.

Why is it? Since when did we have a right to enter the US without question or payment?

Starting to seriously consider that myself with all the things they keep enforcing, if they don't want visitors there are many other places to see in the world :)

If you are not willing to pay $14 I doubt they will miss your business!
