Royal Mail - leaflet delivery

I'm hacked off that I've had to contact the Royal Mail 4 times in 12 months to try and get them to stop delivering leaflets and other advertising material that has no address information on it. The first thing I did was print off a PDF form from their website that I filled in and sent off requesting a stop to such unsolicited mail. Months later I rang and was told to fill in their new on-line webform and request a stop. I rang 2 months ago and was told it would stop by the middle of the following week. I've rang once more and they are repeating the process of flagging the request to the local sorting office. I spoke to the postman this morning and he agreed that the material I saw him push thought is the sort that should be stopped by my request but he was not aware of any flag or note next to my address where the mail is sorted - he suggested I contact the local sorting office directly. I tried but their answerphone message is "there is no one to take this call and you can not leave a message." Is this a common problem? Is there a way to get it to stop without all this hassle? As far as I'm concerned the letter box is for mail addressed to me - I used to have a sign on my door to that effect but the postman took no notice and neither did many of the leafleters (and they are a seperate issue) - what rights do I have?

    Many sorting offices only open in the very early morning - when letters need sorting to go out on the rounds.
    If you have been ringing them after about 11.00 am, then they are probably closed - try before your breakfast, it'll probably be their dinner break!

    you have no rights
    delivery staff are required to ignore messages on doors and deliver.its a conduct code issue not to
    go via the customer service number(not the local number) and get it actioned (these complaints are logged and audited)
    a delivery postie is obliged to deliver until an official opt out is received
    added a few paragraphs for easier reading
  • Whilst i can understand your frustration its not much effort just to pop them in the recycle straight away. i dont mind them as i know all this junk mail is paying somewhat to keep the price of a stamp down.*

    You may have one last thing you could try, if you can catch your regular posty when they next deliver some of this junk, you could show them a copy of the complaint email chain to the Royal Mail Opt-out service and ask the posty to make sure the relevant notes are put onto your address records at the sorting office. The posty may be willing to check your address records.

    If you are not normally in when the posty delivers, then you may not be able to do this, so this may be one more case of a public organisation who do not care enough to give a good service, so right it off as not worth your efforts.

  • Just bin them (in the correct bin) and dont worry about it. There are far more worrying things in this world to be worried about.

    RM employ managers to manage
    its their job to sort out opt outs
    i would never advise any postie to take it upon themselves to stop delivering D2D items for whatever reason

    Read my post more carefully, I said ask the posty to check the records at the sorting office - not just take it upon themselves to stop deliverring.

    Anyway, if the OP has copies of the complaints emails from Royal Mail Opt-Out service, then the manager's are clearly NOT DOING THEIR JOB.

    And there is no reason why the posty cannot feed back info to the local sorting office, if the posty is interested in offering a good level of service to their customer that is ?????

    And if the posty finds that the opt-out is actually on record, they may then remember not to deliver to the OP's address in future ;)

    there is nothing for a postie 'to check'
    the opt out is part of the paperwork supplied every week with the physical D2Ds
    if the opt out isnt on the duties list then it isnt in place
    managers are in place to deal with the administration of all these factors.
    good level of service? you have no idea whats coming
    use the opt out and follow the official systems of complaint
    nothnig better than getting whined at on the street about the D2D's you hate
    delivery staff have enough on their plates just now and you should be preparing yourself for the destruction of the RM you know
