Let's compare -
a) Public sector manager, Grade 7 on £50kish, only benefit is pension. Heart in the right place if not very 'dynamic'
b) Account manager in any of the outsourcing service companies now circling, £100K+, 50+% bonuses for hitting cost saving targets, Share options, company car. Only care, profiteering by shirking on contract and becoming partner.
From 20 Oct, you are placing all your eggs in the b) basket. The Tories are about to pass ££ billions to their chums in Serco, Veolia, CapGemini, etc. etc. I'm sure the Condem Cabinet millionaires have already divided up the spoils of non-exec sinecures to come their way.
without knowing the number of people in pool A and pool B isnt this stat pointless ?

This feels like that sketch by john cleese and the two ronnies to me.
The private secter look down on everyone, the public secter are in the middle and at the bottom you have the people on benefits.
I did try and post the picture but I couldn't figure out how.I used to suffer from lack of motivation.... now I just can't be arsed.

looking at the average pay (see post #51), could you explain how you come to that conclusion ?
unless you are using some other scale to base your insight on ?

I didn't mean it on the pay scale side of things. I mean on attitude. There are people on here who are working in the private secter who class people on the public secter as "cretins" and suchlike.
There have been comments about how they are paying the wages of the private secter through tax and they don't like it. There have been certain posts where people on benefits are called "scum" and similar terms also because of the money they receive from the system.I used to suffer from lack of motivation.... now I just can't be arsed.

I work in one of the larger Government Depts in Workforce Management, one of our big areas of the business has a wastage rate of around 5% for permanent staff (this is mostly at the lower end of the salary scale - around 80% on <£20k) another area that is made up of Contact Centres has a wastage rate of around 11% for permanent staff (even larger % at low grades) so an awful lot of the cuts will be made up of natural wastage and unless big changes are made to the way the business works the only people that will suffer are the public."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0

agreed , emotive language actually deflects away from the valid points that are to be made
my first thoughts when you made your post was that it actually goes something like , public sector -> benefit claimants -> private sector at the moment.
oh and 'I know my place'

Well, you are calling me scum. I work very hard, never strike, have not had a sick day for the past two years and earn £7 an hour. You're making a generalisation about public sector workers so I thought I would try to find out why you are worthier than I.
and others who are not in the know.

Great news for the economy! We have a deficit largely caused by a big drop in tax revenues caused by the recession! We had a million people taken out of work, no longer paying taxes, no longer buying things which are taxable, from shops and businesses who pay taxes on their profits who employ further people wo pay taxes and so on. 1m people turned from tax payers to welfare recipients.
So whizzo plan - lets cut half a million more. They in turn will cost at least the same again from the private sector. Yippee! Another million or more no longer paying taxes and spending money! That'll sort us out!0 -

no we have a problem , because our glorious politicians failed to make those institutions who had failed eat their losses.
