Such a cynic.
Perhaps they took the lessons on board by the masters of "accidentally" disclosing information? Not Again0 -
I suspect it will actually be a recruitment freeze rather than 0.5m job losses overnight. I love how the media over dramatise things like this causing unnecessary panic.
I heard someone saying the other day about how the government can't just cut their wages by 25% because their lawyer would make mincemeat of them. Failing of course to understand that a 25% cut in real terms over four years just means they won't get much of a pay rise for a bit. Still, the media get what they want... for a bit, it'll be interesting to see how they wriggle out of the headlines they printed over the last six months tomorrow.
"Osbourne folds under pressure from unions as no 25% budget cuts announced"0 -
You are right, Blacklight, it says that the headcount will be down 480,000; those kind of numbers suggest a recruitment freeze, and maybe early retirement /voluntary redundancy for some.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

This will certainly have some kind of effect on recession, house prices and the economy.0

I think it will have quite a lot of impact on the economy.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

It adds: "Government will do everything they can to mitigate the impact of redundancies." This will be done by creating conditions for private sector growth, encouraging pay restraint and reduced hours and supporting employees facing redundancy so they can find work in the private sector.
The government hopes that the private sector will keep its promise to take up the slack in the labour market caused by the large shedding of public sector jobs.
The document also states that the OBR will produce a new forecast on 25 November , but does not expect that forecast to change the overall picture on job cuts.
