I wonder if all these people saying cutbacks in the public sector are great, will soon start whinging about the lack of services they receive for all the tax they are paying.0

Just out of interest do you recognise any of these traits on this board. The psychopath has antisocial traits for sure but they are coupled with and enhanced by callousness, ruthlessness, extreme lack of empathy,'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. With my level of savings, I am in fact relatively indifferent between the choice of still having a job but having to live in the UK, and having £17500 (even after the cap is introduced) redundancy given to me and moving to France.
Remember it is predicted that there will be an equal number of private sector jobs lost, and that is assuming the cuts do not trigger another recession. Who in their right minds would want to live in a country in that state?Politics is not the art of the possible. It consists of choosing between the disastrous and the unpalatable. J. K. Galbraith0 -

I am not too happy about a large chunk of the tax I pay going on interest payments and unfunded public sector pensions.0 -

With respect, how is your tax going on the pension if they are unfunded?
Presumably you expect to get public services for free?

it's interesting that many who seem to be gleeful about culling the public sector are the same ones who are planning (or have moved overseas) anyway.
i'm afraid in 'fight or flight' mode i'm pretty much opting for flight too and am currently investing in a place overseas where i plan to spend at least 6 months of the year. i really do believe we had the most vibrant and positive years in the uk under the previous government and i think they realised the need to claw in the deficit but in a less cruel fashion. this lot don't seem to care about creating carnage and the cries of "all in it together" ring so hollow. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -

So if the pensions are not being paid for out of taxation, where is the money coming from?0 -

It just appeared that way because it was all done with increased borrowing. Bit like spending a few years running all your credit cards up the the limits. It cannot go on for ever and when it all hits the buffers can be very uncomfortable.0 -

no it wasn't just about the borrowing. it was also about allocation. and attitude - one that puts value on things other than money and profit. if we are going to use the (flawed) domestic living analogy it's the difference between living in a household that cares about the lives and feelings of members in it and one that only cares about the rent they bring in and costs incurred keeping and feeding them. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -
