Mobile Internet In Canada/Argentina

Hi all

I've recently returned from Toronto where I took my laptop and MiFi2372 allowing me to hook up to the internet. The MiFi2372 is like the Three MiFi but its unlocked and can be used in Americas & Australia (the 2352 is for Europe & Asia).

Once in Canada, I bought a sim card (Virgin Mobile Canada) from a local "cell phone outlet" which saved me a fortune compared to the corporate hotel charges. The MiFi was extremely simple to setup/configure providing me with my very own personal 3G WiFi on the move.

My next trip is to Argentina and I wondered if anyone had any recommendations on local Mobile networks that offer a PAYG or 30 day contract. Not interested in talk or text - just data for mobile browsing.

Any info/experience on mobile phones/internet access in Argentina would be much appreciated.

TIA

Just in case someone is looking at the MiFi2372 or MiFi2352 as an unlocked option for mobile internet, I got mine from a company called MPXSYS based in Ukraine...
    http://store.mpxsys.com/

They were the cheapest, delivery was fast, and support by email & twitter was better than many UK stores!

If you need to use excessive force to remove battery, please return the MiFi to your carrier or where you purchased your MiFi.
    Battery door/battery removal:
Place the MiFi so that the battery door is exposed
Hold the device in both hands. The label end must be near the palms of your hands
Place your thumbs on the traction bars near the corners of the MiFi battery door
Using normal thumb pressure on the traction bars, slide the battery door away from you
The door should move approximately a quarter of an inch and then stop moving
Pick up the edge of the battery door that moves under your fingers to move the battery door
Slightly pull the battery up so it moves over the edge of the MiFi
Remove the battery from the battery well
DO NOT use knives, sharp objects, tools, keys, pens or any obsessive force to remove the battery. Using these objects could result in a punctured MiFi battery. Puncturing the battery may cause the device to combust.

  • Erm... so its like any other battery operated device, but they simply write what happens if you're dumb enough to take an oldschool compass and stab the battery, presumably to reduce the probability of the claim culture we live in?...

Doesn't really help answer my question sadly :(

No, in fact it was related to a recall of a batch of the units. A cursory search would have revealed as much. Perhaps you are a little too cynical.
  • Donnie apologies if I came across cynical, wasn't intended :o

The recall of the MiFi was cancelled back in May due them redesigning the back plate that people were originally using sharp instruments to open in order to get to the battery, which in turn had to be removed to insert the sim card.

Still none the wiser about sim cards in Argentina sadly :(
