Hi, it is hard to cut back, especially when you are used to a certain way. I see it as a challenge and can I manage the week or the month without spending on rubbish, the feeling at the end of it is great.

You really should keep an eye on the statements, its a big eye opener, you could practice on previous ones to see how it works. Do you have online access to your bank account and credit card? I find it can sometimes be easier to look in every other day to see where I am at, sometimes you forget what you have bought!

The eBay items that I am thinking of listing are a pair of red or dead shoes, a long evening dress from Dorothy Perkins and a quiksilver bag. I'm not desperate to sell them but I want to make some cash...grrr! Guess this just isn't the right time and my time will come.

    P x

Its great that you use it as a challenge, I would love to think of it like that,

Yes I have online banking, the problem is I am really good when I get paid as I like the view of it but towards the middle of the month I get really bad and I dont check it, I have kept receipts this month so I can look back and see what Ive spent.

I am sure the right time will come to sell them, I really admire your 'want to make some cash so lets sell..' I need to reprogram my brain x

The stuff you want to get rid of, are they recent purchases? What kind of emotional ties do you have with it?

It will get better. I'm sorry you're having a hard time tonight. xx

Well there are lots of things that I dont really need or use, not really recent purchases as I have only got stuff we really need and if we dont I have taken it back.

Thank you for being there for me last night xx

Is it a good emotional tie that you have? I found that I was attached to immaterial things that reminded me of good times in the past, when in reality the times were only good because I was spending away with no regard for the bill that I was racking up.
I tried to look at the situation from an outside perspective, if I've not used it, don't look at it or don't really like it anymore it went. Even my Quiksilver hats went on eBay and I really did like them but knew I could get some decent money for them.

Ive been thinking about it and its not really a huge emotional tie, its mainly what ifs to be honest. And the guilty someone has bought this or given this to me so I cant get rid of. Ive also got things which I have said someone can have but then I dont see them for ages but keep hold of them just in case cause I dont want to let them down.

youve got such a good way of looking at things. x

What is the starting bid on them Posh? You might find that they are listed at too high a starting price which puts people off bidding. I find that a lower starting price attracts bids, and often means the final price goes above what others have tried to sell them for.

Although of course, you should always assume that the item is going to sell at the minimum bid and treat anything above as a bonus, so set your price at the minimum you would accept for the item.

I like that way of looking at it!! mental note... everythings a bonus when you dont expect it!

I will sell anything that is not nailed down in my house :p, but if something has got a real emotional tie for me and I could not replace it, then it does not go. There are some things I own that I would never sell.

However, there is plenty that I have that don't really mean anything to me, I never use, I never look at, so what is the point in keeping it! You could always do it in phases. Sort stuff out and keep those bits you want to. In a few weeks/months, go back and see if you still really want them. If you do - keep them, if you don't - get rid.

The way I see it, by getting rid of the clutter I don't need, it gives me more space to properly display the bits I do love, and means I can appreciate them so much more!

That would work for me I think, if I have a pile going on a month. Clothes is an area where I hoard! And there is so much in the loft.

Thats one thing I do, put everything in cupboards and drawers so its very minimal stuff out then I keep things just in case.

Thank you for the tip, I will try that as i am going through my cupboard/drawer a day x

I am glad that I can inspire you, I just hope you manage through each week at a time and look back and see what you have managed to achieve. Little things all add up. Xx

Thank you! I didn't used to have a good outlook, maybe its the been there and done that experience!
The what-ifs will probably never be needed. Get in touch with your friends, give them one week or its going on ebay (how much do they really want it if they haven't been to get it?), as for everything else waz it on ebay and see what ya get. Xx

  • Well these are bits that I think they will have if I take it round to them. Do I be selfish and just list it? X
