Let's Build Bigger, Better Blogs - and Earn More While We're at It

  • Definitely keyword research is the way to go. You don't need loads of blogs, you just need lots of keywords with decent CPCs from advertisers.

For example, if you pick a topic with a keyword which only 100 people search for every month, and advertisers pay 5 pence per click, you ain't going to make any money and you are wasting your time and money getting hosting, domain names and writing or outsourcing your writing.

If you find something to write about which 5000 people are looking for and advertisers are paying £5 a click for, then you might be looking at £100 a month in earnings. Personally I would go after that one.

Somebody mentioned inbound links being important; totally right. They basically add authority to your site and you will find yourself going up the search rankings in the search engines (and this may also help with increasing pagerank).

You need to decide if you want "readers" or you want to make money. If you want readers, then by all means go for Web 2.0 and all the social stuff (FB, Twitter etc). If you want to make money, forget it. Social traffic ain't going to convert, compared to search engine traffic. Your search engine traffic, assuming you pick the right keywords, are looking for a product and probably have their credit card in hand, just looking for someone to sell them the product at the right price. If your blog shows up high enough in the search results and that's where they go, bingo!

I like the tenor of this thread though about building bigger better blogs. They will certainly be able to build up more authority over the long term, and for more keywords (although I do still make about £50 a month on a site I only bothered writing 7 posts for!)

Others have said it though; to make money, think long term (like over a year) and keep pluggin' away in your spare time. Oh yeah, and avoid Wordpress.com, the free one, as you can't put ads on there. Go for Wordpress.org if you want to self host, or maybe Blogger if you want free but risky.

    And good luck with it!

Which bit?! Writing content is fairly easy once you have a topic to write about.

If you are going for free hosted blogs they are easily set up, as are self hosted blogs as most companies have Wordpress as a "one click install".

Not sure how long your post will last, but personally i think you have gone a bit OTT with the ads at the footer. There is also a few coding errors that show up at the bottom.

Personally, you need to write about something people will search for, and help them find what they are looking for... ie if you look at my website.

  • I would like to apologise to the people who thought I was on here to just promote my blog. I genuinly wanted advice from people as people on here seem to know what they are doing!

NeverInDebt - I don't think there was a need for your personnal message to me, but anyway if I offended you I am sorry

Made over £800 from adsense last month from one site! - Backed up with affiliates earnings, it was over £1000.

Looking to launch a 2 more sites, hopefully they will average atleast £500 a month EACH.
  • I must be doing something wrong then, as im making nowt from adsnese, but a bit from SEO people coming asking for links on my site.
