I am no expert....just starting off myself....but I thought it was fairly simple to have adwords on Blogger?
If you've got a Wordpress blog that's hosted at your own domain I think it's fairly simple to use adsense ads if you use the theme Jenny ! Having said that, I haven't figured it yet myself but it comes up automatically with that theme to get a little box where you put the adsense code. It's been ages since I tried having adsense on a site and I haven't got it going on mine yet.... but then last Friday I couldn't work out how to load wordpress on my site and now I've got it up and running on three sites so I think I'm making progress!

If it's not a stupid question .... how do I get people to go to my blogs? Does it just happen over time?
Or is there somewhere I should be listing it?
Should I be doing all that site verification stuff with google?

I'm doing the Darren Rowse 31 Days to Build a Better Blog stuff and it's good but time-consuming! And I'm a bit stuck on Day 3 really - my blogs are very, very new and have hardly any stuff on them so I doubt anyone is going to want to link to me yet.

Should I just be working on writing and writing and writing? I like writing but it seems a bit pointless if no-one is actually going to read it!
  • First start by putting a couple of articles on your site, then submit your site to the search engines (https://www.google.com/addurl/ and what not)... Then it also helps by having other sites having links to your site, so if you have friends whom have sites, get them to put links on their site to yours, and then see if anyone would like link exchanges on big websites.

Then once your site gets crawled, you'll see your traffic build up, and with good articles on there (remember that you should answer questions people would be searching for on google) you should see a steady stream of visitors

Write interesting posts. Then go and read other blogs and leave comments. You need genuine interaction to get backlinks that Google will score highly.

    Thanks for that James!
I'm having trouble verifying the sites that are blogs with Google Webmaster - I don't know why. Any ideas?
I usually use the method where you upload a page that has the webname google........htm with loads of numbers and letters in a random order. I've tried that but it doesn't find the page for some reason? It does on the sites that I have that aren't blogs, that are just straight forward sites.

It's addictive though isn't it? I have spent the entire morning doing this - and I woke up at 7 a.m.!

I went to another couple of blogs and left comments but they are "awaiting approval". Presumably I need to include the URL of my site in the comment???

Another question, when I had a trial wordpress blog that was hosted by wordpress it came with stats that tracked how many visitors I'd had (zero!)

Now I've got 3 blogs that I'm hosting on my own URLs that stats facility seems to be missing. Is it? Does it disappear if you host it yourself and if so, what can I do to find out if anyone is actually reading my stuff?

Use google analytics to track your visitors and a whole host of other things.

Can you add google analytics to a blog?

Yes if you can edit the HTML you just paste the code in as far as I know. Put it in the footer or something that appears on every page
