He just looked at the fuse apparently.
He said you can tell if a fuse is blown by looking at it!

I must say, I had my doubts.........

Yes you can see a blown fuse just by looking at it, but I am saying that in order to be 100% positive that the fan fuse is not blown, changing it with a similar fused item which is known to be working is going to be a good idea just incase the fan fuse has failed in an unusual way.

Before cutting a piece of wood measure twice and cut once, same principle with your fuses, before discarding the "blown fuse" as the root cause of the problem, make damned sure that it is definately not blown, it only takes 3 minutes, and could save you a lot of hassle.
  • Hello all!
Just to let you know, it turned out to be the resistor in the heating motor.
We ordered a new one for £15 and hubbys's dad is fitting it himself.
    Thanks for everyone's comments/advice!

Do they work on the fastest setting?

I guess it would have worked on the fastest setting and nothing else then, that's a common fault with any multi speed fan, and the usual way to tell it's the resistor.
  • It didnt work at all.
They could have temporarily fixed it so it blew on full blast all the time but we didnt want that so we'll fit the part tonight.
