Fiat Problem

I dont know if anyone can help.
My hubby just came home from work and the cold/hot air is not working in the car.
It was working this morning now its suddenly stopped when he got in to come home. He's checked the fuse and its not that.
The car is a 56 plate and we have had it for a year.
The thing is, I am really scared its going to be hugly expensive to fix. We have no extra money due to hubby having his hours cut and I am just getting myself upset now :(
Can anyone shed some light?

Given that you said you checked the fuses etc, I'm assuming that it's the blowers themselves that aren't working. If it's not the fuse it'll either be some wiring to the fans or a switch I would have thought. Either way it should be a simple and relatively cheap fix at any garage. Maybe even a job to attempt yourself post diagnosis!

can i just say that with some diagnosis you may find its not a big deal , my cars heating only works when theres enough coolant in the reservoir that i have to top up regularly , i have had a persistant leak for years and cant work out where from , anyway i was driving round all through the winter with no heating in the car till i worked that out , if theres still air blowing out that may be the cause

I assumed it was the blowers not working, given the fact that the OP said the hot/cold air is not working, and that they checked the fuse.

    Heater Matrix is probably dead.

It's pretty expensive from what i understand. It depends hugely if it's a dashboard off jobby or if it's easily accessed from under the bonnet.

Obviously you'd need a garage to check it, but by the sounds of it i think it's a heater matrix fault

Don't worry too much just yet.

LOL...Am I the only one thinking it's the actual blowers themselves that are not working?

Maybe the OP should clarify, just incase I'm going mad!
  • I think its the blowers!
I'm not very good with this stuff but its the slits in the dashoboard that blow the hot or cold air out that arent working!
    Any help? :o
  • What model / spec of Fiat?
Do the fans blow at all?
If you have the air on "hot" and free air does it get warm when you are driving by placing your hand over the vent.

If the answer is yes to the last one then the heater matrix is fine. Its possible that the fan motor has siezed up.

Just to confirm, when you switch on the blowers, can you hear them whirring?

No whirring at all. No sound and no movement at all

    Okay.

Listen up everybody. IT'S THE BLOWERS THEMSELVES THAT ARE NOT WORKING. THERE'S NO AIR TO BE COLD ALL THE TIME!

In that case, what I said initially still stands.
