Call Barring
I choose not to receive 0800 Reverse services as defined in section 4 `Range Of Services' and request that you block my number (01234 567890 <---Your phone number) from receiving such calls.
Please acknowledge receipt hereof.

[Your Name]Thanks BexTech..only been stung once but want to put a stop to it now!

IIRC, you can make reverse charged calls by simply dialling the operator (100?) and asking to do so.
AFAIK, calls made in this way (and NOT by the "0800reverse" crap) are charged as an operator assisted call, and costs much less - but would anyone care to confirm? 0800reverse is run by BT, so I'm not too sure unless something has drasticly changed for the worse..
Incidently 0800reverse was covered by Watchdog not that long ago - see the Watchdog section on the BBC WWW site to watch the video of it0 -

0800Reverse isn't part of BT, it's owned by an Aussie Company. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
I 'opted out' of their service (WHY I should have to is another matter... it should be OPT IN). I got an email response telling me that my request had been actioned and would result in my numbers being blocked FOR A PERIOD OF TWO YEARS!
Now, I didn't put a time limit on my request - I asked for the service to be made unavailable. It appears they're so desperate for custom, they're ensuring any numbers blocked will eventually 'drop off' once the subscriber forgets.

Before any of these 118's and reverse charge numbers were around (10 or so yrs ago) while I was still at school, I once needed to call home when I had no change on me.
I called the operator (100) and asked for a reverse charge call, it was a very short call.
When the bill eventually came through it was a 17second call and the charge was over £3. That would make it almost £8-10 per min!!!
Using that as an example this 0800 number seems a lot cheaper, but I still would not like to pay it! - I agree with the using a code name option... much better!
In fact, thinking about it... don't run out of credit in the first place! Much simpler and safer!!0 -
My 12yo Daughter and her friend know all about this 0800reverse as it is on kids TV from what I understand. (I've never seen it so not on Sky Sports) Then the friend started reversing calls to our house from her mobile at £6+ a time. OUCH!
Come on Martin, let's get a campaign started.
Following on from the new 118... service that is free but with adverts how about-
0800TESCO Call the number, the recipient gets a message like "(person calling) would like to tell you about our special on cornflakes today. Please call them back right away"
For more details about this, call me on 0901234567 (£5 a minute)0 -

OOPS.
Bottom line doesn't look right when read back, should have left a clear line first. No offence meant to Tesco.0 -

A system I still use if I need someone to call me back is to let it ring 3 times and then ring off. All my family have been using this one for years - it used to signify that we were on our way home before the days of mobiles and inclusive texts/minutes, when you didn't need to have a coin before the start of a call from a phonebox. The beauty of this system nowadays is that because the last number can be recalled from 1571, caller ID or missed call, the caller can do it from ANY phone knowing that you will ring it back even if you don't recognise the number (eg a borrowed mobile, or someone else's landline if your mobile is out of juice). Just set up your own number of rings with your nearest and dearest. It's a foolproof one for your kids too. If all else fails, then 40p emergency money can be used from a phonebox with the same system, that way the money never gets spent. Tape it to a business card and pop it in the purse or wallet.0
