Don't buy Freesat from Currys

Aren't HD recorders excluded from the Argos 30 days returns policy?
Yes they are. So that's another mistake.
Incidentally, if you are buying from Currys, the product is on display. When you buy it, they fetch one from the back. So the OP would have seen the item before seeing the box. So the size of the picture on the box is irrelevant.0 -
Yet another case of 'consumer wants' rather than 'consumer rights' perhaps?0

Hmm actually the same with Asda as well:
"Asda Entertainment is operated on behalf of ASDA by TheHut.com (Trading) Limited. We want to ensure you are always happy when shopping with us. To ensure this, we offer an "absolute satisfaction" guarantee where you can return any unopened item within 14 days of the date of your receipt of your order. We will refund your credit/debit card in full once we have received and processed the item (please allow up to 14 days from date of postage)."
"If you have selected installation or assembly of the product, once our fitters have started the installation/assembly you cannot cancel your order."
And there is no silver freesat boxes in Currys, what a strange post.0 -
The OP seemed to be very happy until the wife got involved and "hit the roof."
I'd be changing the wife not the recorder.0 -

I'd be changing the wife not the recorder. There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.
It's for the many and not the few. Be sure it's out there looking for you.
In every town, in every state. In every house and every gate.
Wth every precious smile you make. And every act of kindness.

I trust, OP, you would have been delighted to receive an opened, re-taped-up package smudged with fingerprints and dog-eared manual poorly stuffed back in the box? Or would your wife complain just as bitterly about that? Thought so. Do make up your minds.0

Exactly. Once opened and installed, the box is secondhand and the retailer cannot resell it as new.
What made you think it was going to be silver anyway?
To add to your misery, you could have got it much cheaper at Richer Sounds too-why buy AV products from the dire DSG?
Maybe an aerosol of silver paint is the answer to your problem?
NB: no retailer is legally obliged to change/take back any item just because you've changed your mind (though some do have a more flexible returns policy). No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I think if you'd opted for home delivery you may have been able to send it back for a full refund under the distance selling guidelines -- they're built on the premis that since you can't inspect the goods when ordering online you have to do that at home, so AFAIK opening the box is absolutely fine.
The regs also mandate that the supplier pays the return shipping too. Many will try to get out of this but AFAIK they can't!
it's one reason now I'm more likely to order online - in some ways you have more protection.
No substitute for an outlet with more liberal exchange policies - be it a local store or a large chain. What goes around - comes around
give lots and you will always recieve lots0
