Thank you so much for the link to Zinnia Bridal. I had a dress 'vision' in my head for ages, but have never seen anything like my idea in the shops. I've just been to the site out of curiosity and have seen the dress of my dreams. I'm so excited now, and it only costs £199! - bargain
I was also contemplating making my own wedding cake. However I did make a Christmas cake last year which is still un-iced and 'maturing' on top of the kitchen cupboard...........Here I go again on my own....0 -
Definately reccomend M&S. We had both the fruit and sponge cakes at our wedding last year and they were delicious.
I actually went in and explained that I wanted to try their cake before I made a decision. I expected a small sample but they gave me half a small fruit cake!! If you ask them and around the supermarkets they may do the same for you.
We had a simple cake topper made by the florist to match our flowers and it was PERFECT!
They do the cake in white and Ivory as well!!Watch out people. You don't know what lurks around the corner for you![/SIZE]0 -
... and be wary of buying bridal gowns from the 'net. They may be seconds and could have slight imperfections and / or not be finished properly. I have also known of sellers selling copies.
Trust me, I work in a bridal studio and have had many girls come in with these experiences. It's not worth it. They saved when buying the dress, but then due to one problem or another such as bad fitting (some dresses weren't true to their measurements), flaws and faults or just a plain shoddy, cheap looking dress, they had to fork out for another.
Go to a reputable dealer. They'll give you the help and support that goes with buying a gown, including alterations.
You'll get a proper fitting and have the advantage of seeing the gowns so you can judge what sort of quality you're buying.
I'm not saying this because I work in a store, it's just that for such a big day it's not worth taking risks and there's far too many less-than-honest sellers on E-Bay.
Classic example - a lady tried on a D'Zage dress in the shop. She took the details but we didn't see her again ..... until she came into the shop in tears a week before her wedding with a bag.
She explained that she saw the same dress on E-Bay and bought it as it was cheaper. She mailed the seller to ask if it was the same one and the seller said it was but it didn't have the label init because she bought it from the factory direct. I saw the print-out of the mail myself.
I took the dress out of the bag and it was the same dress....
but....
the cut was terrible - it almost looked like it wasn't on straight. The satin was a lot lighter and cheaper. The embroidery was of poor quality and some of it was 'missed'. The seams inside the dress were 'raw' - in other words there were no bindings and the edges were scratchy - and the lining wasn't stitched to the skirt.
She paid £149 for it and it was totally wasted as when she put it on it looked terrible. Luckily the shop sample fitted her so her day wasn't ruined.
If you choose to buy from E-Bay it is ENTIRELY at your own risk.
Go to the Romantica site and ask them where your nearest stockist is. Speak to the store and they may well either have the dress or order it in for you to try.

Just to add a twist to the tale
I have been married before and bought a dress from a bridal shop. I picked the style I liked and tried on a size 10 which was too tight and a size 12 which was too big  The shop said they would order me one in 'made to measure'. They measured me with my clothes on and just took bust, waist and hip measurements. I thought that was odd as I thought the would have taken more measurements with me in my undies, but they assured me it would be ok.
The dress arrived and I tried it on in the shop. It was a bit big. They were busy faffing about and took the dress off me quickly, so I didn't get a decent look at it. They said it needed 'a couple of tucks' and booked me with the person that did their alterations, for a week before the wedding in case I put on or lost any weight in the mean time.
That weekend, I put the dress on at home to show my Gran. I was quite upset when I realised just how big it was. The shoulders were falling off and slipping down my arms and I didn't have the bust to put in it
I took it to professional dressmaker who had a look at it. He estimated the bodice was around a size 18  He also discovered a number of faults as detailed above, and in the end decided it would be easier to take it to bits and remake it.
I did complain to the shop, who claimed I was happy when I left the shop so I had accepted it and had no redress. I should have taken it further with trading standards, but was too busy with the wedding that I didn't bother.
Guess wherever you go there will be good and bad, so just take care and make sure you get what you really want. Here I go again on my own....0 -
We had M&S iced fruit cakes for our wedding a few years ago. We hired a 3 tier cake stand from a Cake decoration/equipment shop and had silk flowers and ribbon from the florist to match the silk bouquet I carried. Everybody was very impressed with both the decoration and the cake itself. We have subsequently bought again for each of our childrens baptisms.0

Charlotte is a lovely dress. I like the Evita one best though. We're planning an April wedding and the embroidery reminded me of spring flowers. Here I go again on my own....0

Have you looked at Marks and Spencer wedding cakes? - so much cheaper, they do plain sponge, chocolate or fruit cakes and in 3 sizes. From past experience with birthday cakes from M&S - they are excellent. You can get a 3 tiered cake for £90.0
