Delia Smith's recipe is excellent! Also Sainsbury's recipe (in their cake book) is one I use nearly all the time now though;).0

Have you seen Calendar girls? When she wins the Womens Institute cake baking competition she says 'My mother always told me if you want to bake the perfect cake, go to M + S' (or something along those lines). I have to say, I think she's right.
I haven't looked but do Tesco's etc. sell small versions of the cakes? Can you buy one of each and have a taste testing night with family or close friends? Not sure how pricey that would be.
P.s - just have to say, the dress is gorgeous, I'm sure you'll look stunningWhen life hands you a lemon, make sure you ask for tequilla and salt0 -
Asda cake with photo on top v. nice - we sampled it as an idea for my brother's wedding (they had one made by a friend in the end - even cheaper!)£2 savers club - £62
Relaunched grocery challenge:
March target: £150 on food, £50 on other stuff - still not doing very well at keeping track...

Asda's plain white one was lovely. We had one for my daughter's 18th, (I got a phototop from caketoppers.com), but the cake was really moist and had loads of fruit in it. They do it in different sizes too. Recommended.I Believe in saving money!!!:T

I would definately recommend the M&S fruit cakes, its all I use nowadays as if you want a top quality cake the ingredients are very expensive, also the hassle of getting the icing really really flat can be a problem.
I usually just put some delicate icing dots or fine lines in a colour that contrasts with the colour of the occassion and add a centrepiece.
The only problem with these cakes is that they can be very crumbly so I buy mine extra early and allow them to mature, which is what you would do with a homemade cake anyway.

Definitely recommend M&S - both fruit and sponge! My friend had two fruit and a sponge in a three tier, one on top of the other. She finished the decorating herself with readymade icing flowers from a local cake supplies store and it looked absolutely stunning!Mink0

My parents went to a wedding last year where all 3 tiers of the cake were.......... from M&S!
My gran had an iced fruit cake from M&S (unknown to her) for her 80th birthday party as my mum had had enough. She (gran) spent the whole time telling all her guests about my mum's "fantastic, home made cake". Hmmmm. She still doesn't know.Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0 -
I bought an M&S cake for our wedding & went to a specialised cake shop which sells baking tins in all sorts of shapes, thousands of different coloured ribbons to put round cake, hand made iced flowers. I took the cake with me & the lady there was incredibly helpful advising on width of ribbon etc, she was used to dealing with M&S cakes! It cost about £6 for ribbon & flowers to go on top & looked fabulous I got the fitting bit to to attach the iced flowers to cake, like a shaped candle holder so the flowers were securely fitted.
I am not in the least bit creative & I was very impressed with the outcome:)

Hi there
Hope I can offer you some help.
Asdas are brilliant. A good tip is to get it out the box 2 days before your wedding and let it dry out sligtly.
If you would like a layered like cake go for 2 fruits ones and attatch together with dowling. This will help the bottom cake take the weight of the next. You can buy the poles that hold up the next layer from Asda to.
If you dont like the idea of fresh flowers, how about making some out of icing yourself. If you can find out if your local college has any suger craft classes and go in and have a chat with the students. Im sure they shall be happy to help and they look super. You could have those to match your flowers.
One last thing if you havent 100% made your mind up about your dress please let me know. I can point you to a website. Its an American site that supply a lot of dress shops over here.
I tried on a dress and noted its makers. Looked them up on the net and they sent me over my dress. I had to pay £40 import tax and the dress was £200. The exact same dress in the shop was £2000 and no im not joking. They have a great website look up Zinnia Bridal in your search engine and have a look.
Ive been offered £1000 second hand for it but my Nan brought it for me last year she died so id never part with it.
I cannot reccomend higher Ebay for buying brand new things. I used to spend days looking through all the pages.
Blimey I hope ive not board you. PLease let me know if I can be any more help to you. Good luck, im sure youll have a great day. I sure did and cheeply too.Mad Mum to 3 wonderful children, 2 foster kittens and 2 big fat cats that never made it to a new home!
