Returning to Work after Maternity Leave!!
While I have been off, the college I work for has merged with another so the role I am due to return to is totally different to the one I left. I had a meeting with my new boss yesterday to find out what I would be doing, where i would be working etc and was less than thrilled with the information I received.
I have to travel quite a bit further to work through a city centre, pay to park, work with a totally different team of people, learn a whole new set of procedures etc etc, the list goes on and I also got the impression that I have now been given all the tasks that other members of the team either don't like doing or simply haven't got time for!!
To say I am not looking forward to returning is an understatement. I have to work a minimum of three months or I have to repay some of my maternity pay and at present, I can see me only doing the 3 months at the most.
Does anyone have any similar experience of this situation? I also have the potential problem of childcare costs although not immediately. THe prices we have seen will outweigh my salary so it's going to be a decision about whether to work to pay for childcare and have no spare money of my own or give up work and still have no spare money as all my DH's salary will be going on bills!!

brednall - I'm not sure but don't they have to offer you something comparable to what you had before? Moving locations and then being made to park seems like an extra expense that's not reasonable and they should at least reimburse you for that.
What sort of childcare are you looking at? IMO there's a HUGE range of prices - childminders tend to be cheapest and even they have a large range, so perhaps someone on the lower end of prices might be more affordable for your family?top 2013 wins: iPad, £50 dental care, £50 sportswear, £50 Nectar GC, £300 B&Q GC; jewellery, Bumbo, 12xPringles, 2xDiesel EDT, £25 Morrisons, £50 Loch Fyne

They're all a bit like that in the evening Sir M, it's called cluster feeding... Think of it as a way to fill him up for bed... Might get an extra hours sleep out of it

Brednall, I also think they have to offer you a comparable role and at the moment they're not; the change in location IMO is probably reasonable but paid parking is not, and nor is getting all the crap that nobody else wants to do.
What I would do is spend the weekend researching the law re comparable jobs and then send them a recorded letter (keeping a copy for yourself) saying that you believe the position offered to be contrary to [This Law, this section, this paragraph etc] on [These Grounds] and while you want to return to work with them these conditions will not be acceptable so you suggest [This Compromise]. I would also make the compromise significantly in your favour in case they want to counter-negotiate so that if they negotiate and you keep a job with them you end up roughly where you wanted to beOrganised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76
