I apologise for those who may have read my story on another thread, but I am almost proud of it.

We have a local Catholic Mission who doorstep all the local businesses asking for money. Our lads used to get guilt tripped by the nuns into handing over money, only to try to reclaim it through petty cash. The last time they were here, I politely informed them that we were not giving corporate donations anymore, but they could leave a leaflet and if anyone wished to donate directly, they would.

The next day, the nuns returned, asking for the collection we had promised. I pointed out that we had not promised a collection, only to display their leaflet on our noticeboard. The nun got quite irate, and told me that refusing to help the 'little children' was very unchristian of me. I pointed out that I am not Christian and that, frankly, quite a few Catholic priests had been caught doing somewhat unchristian things to children of late.

    I'm going to hell, apparently.

Chuggers are met with a polite 'no thanks', followed by 'Seriously, I'm not interested' for the persistent ones, and the really annoying ones get 'If no doesn't work, does 'please f**k off' make my point?'

Did they look like this? :

    Knock on door, answer door,

    tablet, nougat or toffee?

    when will it end.
  • Funnily, I got home last night and my gf told me about a chugger for the british red cross who had been popping round, knocking on doors asking for donations.

He had a standard script saying "Hey, don't worry, I'm not going to ask for anything.. except money". She replied that it wasn't her flat and her bf (me) would be home later.

So later in the evening, while partaking in dinner.. the doorbell goes.. it's Mr Red cross guy!

He said he bad been earlier and I replied saying I know, and sorry to stop his speech, but I was eating. He did say he could call back later then, but I followed up by apologizing and saying "i'm not interested" and that was that!
:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!

Never trust the PFRA!! I have had dealings with them in the past including complaining to them about chuggers and they'll always stand up for the chuggers.

The PFRA claim to be a regulator and have hoodwinked local authorities into thinking this. They are in fact a marketting organisation primarily out to promote and protect the chugging industry. Unfortunately they are negotiating with local councils into signing up to a voluntary agreement which will allow chuggers to continue operating. Many councils and campainers are lobbying for chuggers to be properly licenced which will give them the power to revoke licences if bad practices continue. So far the government is withholding this power. Basically chuggers have a bad affect on the local economy as many people avoid certain areas where chuggers hangout. Why should a for profit, non-elected organisation have any influence on local economic policy, surely they should be 100% controlled and licenced by the authorities.

The protection of rights of the general public when it comes to harassment comes well down the list for the PFRA.

Yeah they only get paid commission, so no wonder they're desperate to sign people up :(

The company that employs them gets aome 90% of donations..the chuggers themselves get £50/£60 a day, depending on results, Personally I class chuggers as bigger irritants than time-share touts

    I am fuming!

Is there a limit to the time that these guys can call?

8.55pm and I get a chugger. Daughter is asleep, husband is away, lots of elderly neighbours who would be intimidated at being disturbed at this time.

I don't see why so many people feel the urge to be abusive or 'clever' with these people. I'm annoyed by Chuggers much like most normal people, but a simply 'Sorry I don't have time' and just walk straight past solves any issue they may present.

Wish that worked on the packs of them around here. I had about 4 of them chasing me around the town square even after they'd seen my colleagues approaching me and get turned away. I'd said "no, I'm in a rush" twice to two of them, told the third just "no" and told the fourth a loud voice "you've just seen me say "no" to all your colleagues, leave me alone!".

All in about the distance of 4 shop fronts.
  • I just think they're invisible. it's amazing how easy it is to completely blank them - not even a "no thank you", just completely blank them. Simples
  • Walking back to tube station last night with me walkman on and bright white headphones(as you do ) I got approached and politely said no without removing my headphones and this lass still followed me talking to me. Could she not take no for an answer nor see me headphones and stop talking. Ticket.
